This company will not fly without subscribers of which there will be none if there is no advertising to promote good content and promo packages and services. No advertising at this time of year, the season for gift giving?! It took 18 months for the merger to go through and there have been a lot of complaints about what a waist of time that was and how detrimental it was to Sirius, and I agree. But apparently Mel really didn't make very good use of that time either in so far as to having a plan to sell the service once the merger went through. I waited after Labor Day to hear from Mel and there wasn't anything from him to really speak of. I thought once the merger went though Mel would have come flying out of the shutes with something to promote this company and get it off the ground in a hurry but he didn't.
Something isn't right; maybe it's just a case of Mel selling us out and this 18 month merger and the bonds and the debt and the apathy are just a way to slowly let Sirius die. Unless they just don't care and want this company to fade away, Mel and company need to get on it big time and promote Sirius to the public. There is no demand in the general public for radio you have to pay for. It has to be promoted.
Karmazin Video Provides Some Sirius Answers [View article]
No, what I would much rather see Sirius and specifically Mel Karmazin do is to get on it and start advertising their service. I mean, there is no advertising at all, at least not on any TV stations or media that will do it any good. Mel has to sell, sell, sell, like Lee Iacocca did when he helped rescue Chrysler some 30 years ago. Where is Mr. Karmazin??? What kinds of packages and offers are there right now, does the general public know; or does it even realize that there is such a thing as satellite radio? I know I see Comcast Cable, Verison, AT&T and many others pushing there products and services constantly. If Mel doesn't get a massive advertising campaign going like yesterday and Sirius spirals downward, the big league names that have recently signed up with Sirius, like Howard Sterns, will not be around for long. I know it takes money to advertise, but remember Chrysler was going bankrupt when it was resurrected, and I don't think it was a stock split that saved it. What Chrysler did took hard work and determination and it paid off.
I heard Mel say that it was the end of terrestrial radio. How is it the end of terrestrial radio? Much of the public doesn't know or doesn't care that satellite radio exsits. And why would they want to pay for something that they can get for free? If people are not going to be made aware then I say it is the end of satellite radio, it ended before it even began. So roll up your sleeves Mel and get your hands dirty, sometimes that's what it takes if you want to get something to work right. Or else don't. Maybe Sirius is just a scam, another situation where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. And maybe I just bought into a bill of goods.
