Above 10% unemployment and it looks like buy on open was a good strategy. Can it hold about 10k? Can oil stay above $80? Inquiring minds want to know! Especially since I'm long EWZ and BRF. Will the passing of the next housing stimulus package help stabilize housing? I'm long VNQ. Thanks for your insights Dave. Have a good weekend.

Yes, throwing out the baby with the bathwater happens. I've been in EWZ, ILF and BRF for awhile now. They go up faster than the overall market, and unfortunately, fall faster than the overall market. I agree that long-term, these are great buys, but short-term, I get a stomach ache watching the market go up and down by hundreds of points each day.
I apprecaite the article, but you didn't tell me anything I didn't already know by doing the research prior to investing in these etfs. I got into both and will remain in both for exactly the reason you point out in your piece. That BRF is focused on consumer discretionary while EWZ is resource driven. Given that I believe that Brazil's economy will rebound and that the brazilian consumer will benefit from World Cup and Olympics, I'm into owning both of these. And actually, anyone bullish on Brazil needs to own both since they are weighted in different areas.

I AM a long-term investor and have Brazil at the top of my investment list with EWZ, BRF and ILF all in my portfolio. I'd love to see a nice 30% rise in 2010. I hope it's IN 2010 and not BY 2010 as EWZ has already risen close to 50% from it's March lows.

Dave Love your comments and insights. I have been into ILF since last Dec, but added EWZ early this year as it was performing better. Brazil is a great place to invest, and you can choose ILF, EWZ or the new kid on the block BRF. And Dave, you're right. Many markets are tracking the same. Though my two cents would be to add either JNK or HYG to your bond charts as they are the high-yield variety which could be interesting in relation to the security conscious Treasuries. Thanks

I apprecaite the news, and would appreciate any suggestions you may have as to how to move forward with my investments in EWZ and BRF. I would prefer not to sell as I think Brazil is going to be a leading economy in the years to come. Buy on dips or just hold on?
Thanks Manya. I hope you're right. Personally, I think the downturn in Brazil is influencing the US market today. But nobody seems to be commenting on that possibility. Positive news in US isn't producing positive results. And Brazil has been up sharply this summer. EWZ and BRF can be real winners with World Cup and Olympics bringing positive impact to their economy. I guess we'll see what the rest of the week brings.

Interesting how Brazil Bovespa is currently down over 4.5% and I can't find any comments on MW or CNBC correlately it to the weakness of the market today.
Personally, I love Brazil and have been buying EWZ and BRF on a regular basis. I do hope this is a temporary blip in an otherwise nice Brazilian recovery.
Thanks Dave for your insights. Any insights into the announcement from Brazil? EWZ is down in after-hours over 3%. It's been running up on resources and I've been in since May. Every time it seems like the market is ready to correct, HAL appears and we're off to the races again. It will be an interesting week, with the Four Houseman running with Apple leading the way. Alway apprecaite your perspective.

Dave Always appreciate your charts and insights. Just wondering if you could look again at either HYG or JNK for the high-yield bond etf. Just wondering about your insights in comparing them to the other bond etfs you follow. Thanks

Thanks for your comments. Just found your article as it was linked to my investments in BRF, EWZ and ILF. I haven't bought individual Brazilian stocks. Are they ADR on a US market or only listed on the Brazilian exchange? Thanks again for your insights. Go Brazil.

I prefer technical analysis and comments. If I want political comments, I got Fox and MSNBC and CNN to turn to. No one does technical analysis like the Fry guy.

I've been in ILF, EWZ and BRF all year. They have been outperforming the market. Unfortunately that means they outperform down as well as up. But assuming we're in an uptrend with some minor corrections, I would strongly suggest buying the dips and getting into these funds for the long-term run. Go Brazil

I've bought ILF, EWZ and BRF over the past year and I'm up nicely on them. I expect them to continue to outperform the market. Only problem is they outperform down as well as up. While ILF and EWZ are both resource heavy, BRF is Brazil small-cap stocks and should really do well once the market straightens out. Go Brazil.
