why do all the articles indicate that siri does not have enough cash to pay feb debt? where did the 3-400 mil cash on hand go to? Or does Mel assume that if they use some of that for the debt payment that they can't meet operation expenses going forward? I pretty much assumed siri could get past this first debt gate.... guess i was wrong???
Does Ergen Have Enough Leverage to Play Out His Sirius Hand? [View article]
i read all these comments and ideas, along with the message board on yahoo, and its pretty clear that none of us has a fucking clue what's going on behind closed doors and how this thing will end up. this is not meant to take anything away from the heavy posters like cos, relmor, 163888, s162...you guys are awesome...and your intelligent comments are enjoyed and appreciated. but right now I feel as helpless as I've ever felt about knowing the future of this company. man is it frustrating. between the months of waiting for the merger and then this incredible dive down to .10 ville...this stock has taken me on a journey like none other. my pessimism tells me that Mel will forfeit the shareholders if necessary to strike the right deal for himself and the long term prospects of the company. from what i can tell, there are ways in BK to save the company, improve debt situation and contracts, and come out on the other side better equipped to compete. only problem is the shareholders get screwed. do we really think Mel will fight to respect us? the way he has handled this entire situation, particularly the lack of transparency, leads me to conclude that we are not nearly his top priority. So I remain hopeful that my 300,000 shares are safe in Mels hands and he will find the best way out for all of us....but certainly far from confident.

gotta admit....this article sounds pretty convincing. doesn't seem like Feb debt should get us to BK just yet. any chance this is just another ploy to drive the price lower before good news is announced or am I just smokin too much weed? Or perhaps Mel is working on BK plan as just one of several plans under consideration. makes sense that he gets a good look at what BK terms look like. what about ergen...is he really forcing Mel's hand here? sure is hard to figure out this drama...but this was not the news we were hoping to get.

when you think of just the name...wsj...you think of professionalism, objective and accurate reporting, factually based information sharing. certainly not conjecture, unsubstantiated sources etc. this is the kind of shit you find at the motley fool. it's ok to publish this crap, as long as your readers understand the nature of your offering. regarding wsj...i think we all expect a very responsible, accurate, confirmed representation of the facts...not the bs they laid on us the last couple days.
that said...you made a few bucks relmor...and we all got a look at the movement we can expect when good news is announced. and it will be... I bought another 100k yesterday at .11 and now have my cost ave down to .34. I feel like I'm in the ball park. Bottom line, I read all the stuff and come to my own conclusions. I'm convinced SIRI is not going BK anytime soon so felt very safe buying in again at this level. not sure how it will all end up but almost certain pps will be higher than it is today when all this stuff shakes out over the next couple weeks.

63888,
good point...and I agree BK still very unlikely here...but what does a merger, takeover, partnership...whatever it is...mean to future of siri and pps? assuming all the doom and gloom is even halfway true it sounds as if Mel's back is up against the wall. so what's the best case scenario of Mel turning to Ergen?

i hear ya relmor...thanks. no way i'm selling at this point...i'm in all the way. what I'm really questioning is whether or not I should be adding to my position. I thought i has missed the boat when it shot up last week...but now we're right back down there...so thinking again about buying some more. I had been thoroughly convinced that Mel would announce a refi deal soon enough. I just can't imagine this company tanking all the way with so many positives coming along in the last month or two. iphone app, price increase, merger synergies etc. other than horrific credit and auto markets, there is nothing not to love about siri's future. i guess mel will turn to ergen if he needs to and we will see a small pop in pps, but that long term growth in pps that we are all waiting for goes out the window.

here's an excerpt from that article that confuses me....
"In discussions with investors last week, Karmazin said that unless he could raise $175 million, he would be faced with one of two options: having Sirius file for bankruptcy or cutting a deal with Ergen, the paper said. An EchoStar spokesman could not be immediately reached for comment by Reuters. Sirius too could not be immediately reached for comment by Reuters. (Reporting by Bhaswati Mukhopadhyay in Bangalore; Editing by Erica Billingham)"
what discussion with investors? i don't recall hearing any news regarding recent statements from Mel to investors. Anyone?
where is COH? I assumed that Mel could tackle some of the Feb debt with COH and rest thru equity swap. Also, what about recent cash coming in from subs looking to lock in lower pricing options? what about FCF for Q4. If Mel is really struggling to handle this first wave of 09 debt then the street might be right...it's just a matter of time before BK. May just a few short months away.
does Mel have a deal somewhere else? sure is doing a great job of keeping quiet if so. the comment in the article sure doesnt give one confidence that he has something up his sleeve...
