JNJ Still Solid - Buffett or No Buffett [View article]
Jae Jun offers a lucid insight into JNJ here. Following whales like Kirkorian, Ichan, Pickens and Buffet, et al, has been no help during these times and even disasterous for those who drank their kool-aid. Remember only 12 months ago when Ichan was hot to buyout now bankrupt WCI at $21...great idea! How about Pickens' oil call...and his wind farm blather. Contarian indicators in retrospect. So Buffet folded out of JNJ equity in favor of GE debt...maybe he's the patsy.
Mexican Economy: Does What Happens in Mexico, Stay in Mexico? [View article]
Unless I'm mistaken, the second biggest source of national income for Mexico is dollar remitances from Mexicans in the United States...any guesses on which direction that is going? This adds up to a looming "triple whammy" for the Mexican economy: drug cartels threatening government and social stability; rapidly declining oil production and plunging dollar remitances. Yikes!
Seeking an Historical Precedent for the Current Crisis [View article]
As usual, you are able to brilliantly condense a complex topic to it's core and then apply your calm logic in drawing conclusions. Keeping in mind that you have not exactly been a member of the "perma-bull " pundit club over the past months, this perspective on an imminently "rising Phoenix" economy is encouraging. Still, in keeping with your analogy it is disturbing to note that in ancient mythology the Phoenix must burn to ashes first before the new bird emerges.
Your article would have more gravitas if it included at least a mention of the role that "Big Labor" has played in the slow bleeding death of the US auto industry. Those bloated legacy pension obligations and sky-high average salaries, more than triple the national average, would have been a good start. Are there any workers on the planet as overpaid and coddled? I like your Mitt Romney idea, but it seems unlikely that those arrogant union bosses would even sit down at the same table with him.
GM: Charging Forward with the Volt? [View article]
The "future of GM" is NOT in "fuel ecomony", it's future is in making a profit. Unfortunately for Detroit that seems increasingly unlikely and the stock market has already discounted it's likely failure. The only ones crying at GM's funeral will be the United Autoworkers bosses--and the swindled American taxpayer.
Nicely put...and what's wrong with a growing "income gap" when it's those with more to offer that are pulling ahead faster. After all, Darwin was right!
I appreciate your point of view, which I will accept as "tongue in cheek" humour. But seriously now, the only real argument for not drilling in ANWAR, or anywhere else inside our borders, is made by those who dream of artificially driving up fuel prices so we will all be forced into smart cars...or worse-- like public transportation!
U.S. Household Net Worth Is Up by 43% Since 2002 [View article]
Thanks for the perspective...seems that Sen. Phil Gramm was right when he said back in July that this was a "mental recession". He may also have been right about America having become a "nation of whiners" (present company excluded!)
Why Patriotism and Your Portfilio Don’t Mix [View article]
What a load of #$%&...why don't you move your leftist rants to the moveon.org blogs and leave the investment advice to those who know what they are talking about!
Jason, I believe that time will prove you right...but for now, let's keep in mind this quote from Winston Churchill: "Americans can always be counted on to do the right thing, once they have exhausted all other possibilities".
