  • Was Apple Spooked By The BlackBerry Passport? [View article]
Companies are worried that Blackberry will go out of business at any moment. That kills corporate adoption. It doesn't matter what hardware they release as long as they're on shaky financial footing.

In the past Cook has ignored the competition publicly and partially to Apple's detriment. In the WWDC talk, he took a few steps laying out the narrative for Apple's position in relationship to the other players: namely that Apple is the most cohesive, least fragmented, most modern (in terms of real-world installation percentages) of any platform. It was a minor but important part of the talk, regaining some control in the discussion of Apple's relative competitive advantages.

  • iOS 8, HealthKit platform announced; iOS device sales top 800M [View news story]
If you think this was boring, then you're not a developer. The stuff that is being queued up here is huge and ABSOLUTELY points to the iwatch and most likely an Appletv that rivals xbox and play station in console-quality gaming. Have fun with your iYawn quips while you can. The writing is on the wall here.

Also don't knock the hugely overlooked CloudKit announcement. Apple just made it incredibly easy for developers to create apps without building a separate backend. The ease of building advantage on ios is now very large. Simply put, more new apps will get written for ios first.

There is pretty much no way that Blackberry can come back from the dead at this point. It doesn't matter how much people love your keyboard, if companies are afraid that BB might go out of business at any moment, they're not going to invest in a BB-only system. That's all there is to it.

They've lost their reliability as a supplier and if you're looking to crack the corporate market, that's kryptonite.

  • Putting Apple's Dividend Into Perspective [View article]
Absolutely. Apple is incredibly conservative when it comes to spending cash. They've been saving the split, the div increase, the buyback increase for this most recent earnings report because their 2014 product releases are finally locked and loaded.

I would love to see them succeed, but after following NVIV through the past 2 years, there has been too much sketchiness in regards to communicating with shareholders for me to invest at this point.

  • Apple: Let Us Not Get Overexcited [View article]
It's not overreacting, it's returning to average sentiment. People have been spooked by Apple stock and have been unduly avoiding it. This is the first step to treating it in-line with its peers.

  • Apple announces 7:1 split, ups dividend and buyback plan [View news story]
Apple needs some mind games to give a psychological reset. It's been weighed down below value by sentiment and psychology for too long.

  • The Real Premium Smartphones Are Not iPhones [View article]
I actually agree with this piece. I wish people would stop calling iPhones "luxury" phones. They're high-quality and on the high-end of mass market, but they are not "luxury" in the same sense that a luxury car is. They're closer to a Volvo than a Ferrari.

    And that's a great thing.

  • Cook: Apple TV did more than $1B in FY13 sales [View news story]
I can't tell if you're trolling of not. You've mentioned Andrew Mason as a potential CEO for Apple in multiple comments. Groupon's business plan is a complete disaster based on hype and wishful thinking. Carol Bartz, the CEO who ran Yahoo into the ground and destroyed every acquisition the company made?

Apple's only problem right now is sentiment. When it shifts, look out-- people love a good comeback story.

  • Cook: Carrier policies hurt N.A. sales; Apple "intrigued" by payments [View news story]
I think I actually agree with you. I'm just saying that there is a point at which the p/e will become so compressed that WS will see a bigger opportunity in riding the price back up again than keeping it depressed.
