  • Sell Apple And Put Up Your Defenses [View article]
The thing is, it's not even that large compared to profits. Apple is valued at a rather unordinary and boring p/e.

I think you're expecting too much too quickly from Apple Pay. They launched not even 2 months ago. Check back in 2 years.

  • Apple Could Drop Google For Bing In Safari [View article]
It's debatable whether it was worth it in the end, but Apple Maps happened because Apple wouldn't agree to Google's terms when it comes to tracking user data in maps and handing it back to Google in exchange for features like turn-by-turn navigation, etc. The only way to get leverage was to threaten to build their own maps app and Google called their bluff.

I'm not sure why you say Apple doesn't care about privacy? VERY little of their business model has anything to do with selling user data. Look at recent Apple products like iMessage, Apple Pay, and Healthkit. Apple built the products in a way that they aren't even able to access the info if they wanted to.

Compare that to Gmail, which shows me ads based on the content of the email I'm reading currently.

As much as I'd like this, I fear it will be an Apple Maps situationagain. It's not that Apple can't build good software, but Google has the advantage in sheer amounts of data and years and years of time to refine the processing of it.

Whether they're doing it or not, they have to keep their options open for leverage. Google makes more ad money from ios than it does from android.

  • Apple Short Interest Hits Multi-Year Low [View article]
Excellent question. I had way too much in AAPL until recently. I put all my un invested cash in because it was too undervalued at 400 pre-split and I was quite confident. Now we're leaving no-brainer territory and entering normal-investment territory, so I cut my holdings and now "only" have half my portfolio in AAPL. Probably too large for most, but I feel the given the highs in the broader market at large, I don't have a better place to put the cash.

  • Apple + IBM Enterprise Event: What To Expect [View article]
I'm excited about the IBM partnership, but I can't see an AppleTV release at the same event. The audiences of people who care about enterprise apps and the people who want a great entertainment device are too far apart.

  • Can Apple Sustain Advancements In Future iPhone Generations? [View article]
It would be a huge coup for Apple to make a battery breakthrough, but it would be an entirely different scale of achievement. A significantly better battery would be a fundamental chemistry breakthrough. There is so much attention being devoted to battery tech all over the world that I find it unlikely Apple will be the one to do it.

Most likely they'll achieve better battery life through more efficient custom chips, using smaller-process fabrication, more compact electronics leaving more space for a bigger battery, more efficient os-level power management, and a million other evolutionary tweaks.

And hopefully when the major discovery comes, Apple can use its massive bankroll to license the tech for consumer electronics.

It would be a crime to keep the tech entirely to themselves in other areas like cars and power storage for solar arrays etc.

I agree with your general point. Apple has a long runway of improvements before phones become completely commoditized.

One point about the iMac 5k display though -- that's iPhone technology making its way to a desktop computer, not the other way around. The iPhone already has twice the pixels per inch of the 5k, though on a smaller device that is held much closer to the eyes. The real breakthrough with the 5k was being able to drive such a large display with such high resolution.

Everyone but MCX knows that CurrentC is a joke product. Maybe they even know it, but aren't sure how to proceed. It's hard to say at this point.

But it's just a waiting game until NFC takes over. Tech moves on and they're betting their future on a technology that peaked a year ago. It will be interesting to see the first store that defects from the group.

Apple will sell very few $5000 watches, but that's their plan. The $5000 watch is to anchor the Apple Watch firmly in the fashion category, not just the tech category. The $5000 watch provides a halo to the stainless steel $500 watch and the aluminum $350 one. They're no longer just gadgets sold at Best Buy, they're a part of your wardrobe. You don't just use it, you wear it.

Even the nicest of the Android Wear watches, the Moto 360 is still very solidly a gadget in its framing. A round gadget with a perfunctory strap. Nice for tech, but it's not smart jewelry.
