    The only problem with using "forward earnings" as developed by "analysts" is that analyst estimates are historically horrid. David Dreman has done lots of work on analyst estimates going back to his early works where he details typical estimate errors of 50-60% (on year ahead basis, not on 5 day ahead basis). The only thing really known about a company is trailing earnings. Future earnings, unless they are from a Jack Welsh-Lou Gerstein school of managed earnings are largely fantasy.
