  • How's the Economy Doing? November's 'Look Under the Hood' [View article]
Leftfield thanks for diligently following my posts, if I get a Twitter account I'll be sure to let you know. Feel free to take advantage of the voting functionality as you see fit, I certainly do.

A platform was provided and it was successful. Then were abuses of this success by many Sellers, eBay grew a reputation through it's Seller for being a place to get swindled. Driving Buyers to it's competitor's. eBay took steps to counter the poor reputation that was being built and salvage it's business before it started a deep dive. To some these were drastic measures, to others like myself they made sense. By reputation eBay is a better to place to buy today then it was 2 years ago. Certainly safer than it has ever been. I do understand why some Sellers are not happy, but the Market has changed for good and you can't blame eBay or it's management for that. I think they did what they had to do to compete.

If you waiting for a management house cleaning you maybe waiting a long time. Even if there is one soon I wouldn't bet that you'd see a new management team reverting to the old retaliation style eBay where you can purchase at your own risk. As an Investor I certainly don't want that.

    Leftfield
you say "That this still hugely cash-generating company is screwing so many hard-working small sellers in such a misguided and counterproductive way deserves mention"

How is eBay screwing small sellers? Are they forcing them sell on eBay then taking their money? Don't sellers have choices, there are so many these Days? Screwing? I really just don't get that comment. To no fault that I can see of eBay's the Market has changed, they are doing all they can to change with it as far as I can tell. If it's no longer advantageous to sell on eBay then don't. Listings are at an all-time high so obviously something is working for them hence their continuing on their current path.

Amazon's growing faster but then again Amazon is much smaller in total volume, as I stated before the room to grow for Amazon is much larger, but their stock price more than reflects that. Amazon will have a similar growth rate to eBay's if they ever hit 12B in Rev. My Investment is in eBay for now, let's see what 2010 brings....

You can assume all you want Philly, but since we are all assuming I'll make this assumption of you.

Your another failed Seller, bitter at eBay because you failed. And how dare eBay encroach on your God given right to it's space. Hell you earned it right Philly? Blaming your failure on yourself is just not in your DNA.
Good luck on Amazon, you should try if you haven't already, but I'm sure you'll suffer the same fate....

Yes I do like eBay at this price and loved it even more in the teens. I lost like everyone else when the economy tanked last year, but I have recovered nicely this year. eBay has been in and out of my portfolio since 1999. I buy on eBay, I use PayPal where ever I can, and I'm a big fan of Skype so why not be an Investor.
I've won a lot more than I've lost owning eBay over the years and really I don't see them failing anytime soon.

Ok NYM Arts you need to be called out here.
    NYM Arts says.
"Cash Heavy = ILLEGAL PayPal holds on Sellers Money. So, it's a FALSE CLAIM."

I didn't see any prosecution coming PayPal's way, are they under some kind Government Review that I'm unaware of? Why don't you post some of your "I hate Paypal" website links for proof? LOL

eBay's claim that they have 3B in Cash with more coming in from the Skype sale is a false claim huh? Isn't that illegal? Hmmm, haven't heard of anyone wanting to lock up JD? Oh, of course just the failed Sellers here who bash him for the own misfortunes. Oh well then I guess your right.... LOL

Hey I found more eBay SPIN. She's just an Actor paid by eBay right?

You people are so shallow, eBay is a unique site with 200M live listings. Each of these pages are interactive, the technical challenge is daunting. No other site in the World is like eBay, from what I hear they have to break new technical ground all the time just to support it. But I'm sure anyone of you could do it. Bob C, 5 million in your pocket and you could do it right? ...LOL
Yes, I'm blowing the eBay horn again. 33% increase in listings from the same time last year, WOW. Hey Patricia you said eBay was dying, I don't get it, why a 33% increase in listings? Just can't be? It must be eBay SPIN again. As Bob C says "ROFLMAO!!!"

18 million people on-line on Skype right now, just six months ago this was typically around 12 million. Skype is growing fast. Just log-in and you can see it in the bottom status on the Skype window. Glad eBay retained 30%.

Bob C you are comedy, just like Patricia you bash eBay because you want it back to the old way. Tell the truth Bob, if you were so happy with Amazon you wouldn't lurk on this board like so many others here.

Patricia, 5.35B to 12.2B in Q3.... enough said.

Amazon doesn't Bully their Sellers? You either follow the Amazon way or you don't Sell on Amazon. The only difference is that eBay tried to clean-up after the fact and experienced the pain of having to place controls where there wasn't any before.

Don't give me that crap the Amazon is the clear winner, if that was the case you wouldn't be here Chearleading for eBay to go back to way it was. Obviously Amazon has not been your complete answer either ..... LOL

I'm here Bob C, and again eBay is in a different stage on the growth curve as I've stated before. eBay had 12.2B in GMV in Q3 excluding Motor's, what was Amazon's REV in Q3? Big differences in profit too, again let's see how much Amazon is going to grow if they ever reach 12.2B in REV for that matter. Everybody taken with the growth %, but let's see how long it lasts....
