  • Instagram (FB) triggers a backlash by announcing it will have the right (effective Jan. 16) to sell access to photos and user information for use in ads without notification. Facebook had already signaled it plans to monetize Instagram, but few expected big privacy policy changes. The mobile photo-sharing platform had already upset users this month by ending Twitter integration. Henry Blodget: "The truth about Instagram's horrifying new terms of service: No one will care." [View news story]
It is rife with ads like google is rife with ads. Also, stealing would imply they are doing it without permission and warning. Instagram is telling users and giving them a heads up.

Honestly, FB paid a ton of money for this company. What do you expect from a service thats FREE. FB didnt buy this to do everyone a favor; they bought it to make money.
Its either this or charge, and just like with FB, no on will pay to use the service.

  • A delayed thought on the Square-Starbucks linkup: Though Square has been the one grabbing most of the kudos emanating out its announced partnership with Starbucks (SBUX +1.5%), don't overlook the impact the deal could have for the coffee chain's bottom line. Every time a customers pays with the Square smartphone app, Starbucks saves a little on credit card processing fees. It could also speed up lines at busy stores if the app's hands-free feature is utilized. [View news story]
Your right, but the default option on the Realod is Paypal (if you do it directly from your phone as opposed to in store). I believe there is a much lower fee there. But your are still making a good point.

  • Shares of Herbalife (HLF) lose 3.3% in premarket trading after the David Einhorn Effect continues to weigh on the stock. In the latest blow, Caris downgrades the company to Hold on fears that Einhorn will present his thesis on HLF at the Ira Sohn conference. [View news story]
Maybe its just me but it seems kind of ridiculous that Caris will downgrade to $39 but says that if Einhorn doesn't speak they will raise the target again. What kind of ridiculous analysis is that?
