The Calm Before the Storm? [view article]
Hey Ionie,Then best you stay in Thailand where you will be safe, sound, and living off the fat of the land ....until someone buries an machete in your neck.
Better yet, come on back home and run for President...you appear to have the right amount of smarts. Sep 27 11:34 AM
Buy, Sell or Hold: Potash Deserves Another Look [view article]
Some government regulations are ALWAYS going to be necessary in the financial markets-operative word...SOME. Does a building have to fall on some idiots to drive home the point? Capitalism is fine, but left completely shorn of oversight, it would drive us back to the stone age. Too many people, not enough usable land, and a non infinite supply of raw materials make SOME regulation a necessity for the survival of the system. Anyone that cannot see understand that is just plain DUMB. The problem will always be.....how much? Sep 22 12:52 PMWhy Don't Earnings Matter Anymore? [view article]
Einstein and Socialism:Hitting the nail on the head is what you gentlemen have done. I am long on Potash and several other commodity type or "tied to" stocks that have me down 40% before mediocre gains yesterday. The answer to how long does one remain long for this smallish investor is.....until these stocks return to their rightful places at or near the top of the heap...which they will do if for no other reason than they are great companies by any measurement except the volatility and freakish behaviors of the mkt. from time to time. As nearly everyone knows, when you are down a heap on stocks representing excellent management, high profits, good futures, etc. not too smart to sell because once gone, a very real loss has occurred, not just one on paper. Potash Corp. Poised to Double Market Capitalization [view article]
Well......CT programmer, spoken like a true " green eyeshade", If I had any more money to invest right now, I'd be buying POT bout as much as I could buy with the money I had. Potash isn't like any other ag product, it is THE primary ingredient other than the seed leading to the production of any ag product growing out of the ground. Better go crunch some more numbers. I love all the green eyeshade prognosticators, chartists, analysts, et al who base all their guesswork on sectors instead of individual companies or products. To the John Kerry Lover:There was nothing scurilous about the Swift Boat program to demolish a politician that needed to be demolished since he laid claim to heroics that apparently most of his own sailors chose to dispute. All Pickens did was spend a little of his own money to support the effort and let it happen. "Scurilous" indeed, the attack was out in the open, nothing secret, names named, books written and NOBODY SUED FOR SLANDER OR ANYTHING ELSE. That ought to tell you something about Senator Kerry. For David Wright....What evidence to you speak of regarding commodities reversing direction lately, I'd like to smoke that pipe for awhile if I can find it-at least the high flyers of the last half yr or so, i.e. POT, MTL, MOS etc.
See Eli remarks above "Gold, platinum, and silver hit 7-month lows on concerns of reduced demand for raw materials. Commodities descend Monday into bear territory, with S&P's GSCI index off 22% from its July 3 highs. Aug 12 08:45 PM

Demetry Medvedev had better watch what he says or he could be on the inside of Lubyanka looking out, either that or fishing with Polar Bears somewhere in Siberia. In the mean time, long on MTV is the way to go. Jul 31 12:10 PMMechel Should Bounce on Russian Deputy P.M.'s Comments [view article]
Mostly blah, blah, blah and more blah. Nobody knows! so this bull is hunkering down on MTL for the long pull. Haven't enough left to make it worth while getting out. Also there is much to be said for the idea that Putin cannot afford another Yokos quite so soon..he's not that dumb, I know. I've "looked into his eyes". Don't knock yourself out laughing now. The Top 5 Looming Financial Issues [view article]
I am flat out amazed at all the discussion related to how much is owed and to whom, what the national debt is, what's going to happen when 30 billion Asians finally decide what they want to be when they grow up, how "they" make it impossible for any people to function well politically, financially,or accumulate wealth, etc. in the U.S. Economics, war, etc. and nothing is said about EDUCATION or the lack of it's availability or more accurately phrased, the lack of a populace who could care less about getting educated because they have been raised on a diet of caviar laced with fried fat, high tech games, and shootin hoops, dog fights and preacher teaching the gospel of "God wants you to be RICH" (and unaccountable) at the same time.Having been born poor in 1931 USA, I was old enough soon after the end of WW2 to realize that without winning WW2, there is no way the USA of today could have reached it's apex of wealth and scattered that wealth about the incrementally growing populace with such ease (compared to any other nation in the world....civilized or 3rd and 4th world nations).
Btm line is that only a war of signficant length and decimation of peoples in the top five (pick a number) most prosperous nations in today or tomorrow's world of the next fifty years...give or take (purely guess on my part) will straighten out many of today's imbalances. A fresh start is needed, although it is highly questionable that the human race, cloned or not will ever learn the ultimate lesson needed to be learned...which is that there has never, ever been any free lunches since the world began with Eve providing an apple to Adam. Not for the earliest cave man, Greek or Roman empires nor the Byzentine. Belief in God or not, there is a price to be paid for everything except death, it comes for everyone sooner or later and if B.O. has his way it will be sooner and more than likely... taxed to the hilt. Friday Outlook: Commodities, Emerging Markets [view article]
Some will say my "handle" is entirely appropriate for my comments; however, since I am not a "chart man" and pretty lacking in mkt. knowledge to boot, we seem to have a significant difference of thought between the article writer and the two fellas commenting b4 myself. Can someone please tell me with some high degree of reliability, whether I am going to make money the rest of the year in the following stocks...(ABB;APC; MON; MTL; POT; RIG)? The variables involved in forecasting seem to me to be so many and so staggering and loaded with such abundant contradiction as well as potential for disaster on a world wide basis...financial and otherwise, it's easy to think that I should run for the nearest gold source and never look back. On the hand, I don't think I can eat gold or put a roof over my head, with stuff that is all that heavy. When and if the mkt gets that bad, an MK 47, body armor, and supply of C rations might be the only tkt. to survival. Jul 25 09:02 AM
