Toby Trevarthen joined Spark in the new capacity of Chief Narrative Officer in 2015. In this role, Toby will be co-creating the agency’s innovative Agile Narrative™ framework. A fresh approach to narrative strategy and development, conversational white space and conversational IP. Before joining Spark, Toby founded Spatial Shift in 2008. Spatial Shift was a strategic business development firm focusing on new company creation, content marketing, narrative development and programmatic advertising. Spatial Shift was an advisor to Prohaska Consulting and developed programmatic solutions for such clients as eBay, OperaMediaworks, coupons.com, Radio Advertising Bureau, Summit Media, Time Warner Cable, BandsInTown and Legacy.com. Toby also co-founded 21st Century Narrative, LLC, the producer of www.thenarrativeproject.net. The Narrative Project was a co-collaboration design to create a book on narrative in the 21st Century (releasing in late 2015). Toby extended this innovative expertise at THE FACTORY, an immersion firm in SF. Toby worked with Wells Fargo, Levis and Li & Fung to develop new business concepts in a 48-hour period. Toby blends corporate experience with several Silicon Valley startups. He held executive roles in AllAdvantage, Everloop and Anchor Intelligence. He is also a co-founder in Drive Time Metrics (connected car analytics) and Trace.coffee (an IOT company focused on food supply chain transparency). Toby has a rich big media background, pioneering the era of integrated media sales. He led corporate sales and business development teams that sold over $1B in advertising related revenue. While at Harman, he led an industry first interactive advertising program in the connected car in 2013. Toby spent 14 years at AOL and Time Warner in executive management roles. His background also includes transmedia sales at Meredith and Gannett Corporations. Toby’s Andy Warhol moment was creating the first sponsorship of the Heisman Trophy for Suzuki Motors. Toby is an advisor to Sunflower Hill, an organization focused on building living communities for Adults with Special Needs.
