Should we therefore ban buying when a stock reaches a certain PE/price? The problem with taking a 'legitimate tool' (as the UK FSA call it) out of the market, is that you have to look at the flip side.

Can't see it myself. Yes, we will still be reliant on oil, but the recent spike served to put everyone on warning that high oil prices are probably here to stay. Technology will respond to high prices, in more fuel efficiency and alternative technologies. It may be $300 per barrel, but we won't all be using it as much.

A very good question David.. where will it end? I happen to think, as most people I am sure do, that the alternative to bailing out F&F would have been a catastrophe, but now auto-manufacturer loans. At some point the 'free market' has to be... er.. 'free'.

Great call. I think the lasy few days have shown that we are still in a nervous period with any bad news causing chaos, but really... a seven hundred point drop in the Dow... is it really that bad.... Look for next week to give back some of these losses.

Although you article deals with managed accounts for the institutional business theadvent of the 'Treating customer fairly' rules in the UK may help the retail managed account suppliers. With this in mind, do you see a time where introducers of retail investors (i.e IFA's) will be better served by individual managed accounts for their clients who are looking for better return than traditional mutual funds?
