  • Molycorp (MCP +0.8%) is initiated with a Neutral rating at Goldman Sachs, which says its positive view on growing leverage to higher-value, downstream products and potential share gains in China is balanced by management uncertainty and execution risk ahead of a big capacity ramp in 2013. [View news story]
Goldman setting itself up for an eventual upgrade of MCP sometime in 2013. "Potential share gains" is the key comment.

  • The Only Way To Own Molycorp [View article]
There is another very obvious way to buy MCP that for some clueless reason this author fails to mention. Buy the call options! $MCP could easily trade up to 15 or 20 in 2013...the revenue is there. They just need to turn the revenue into profits.

  • Despite the immediate negative reaction to the ouster of Molycorp (MCP) CEO Mark Smith - shares -5.5% premarket - investors may come around to a more positive view. Smith "had lost credibility" with constituents, shareholders, potential investors and analysts, a J.P. Morgan analyst says; "his ability to deal with the financials of an emerging company appeared to overwhelm him at times," says another. [View news story]
    MCP is dangerous.

  • Conspicuously absent from Mark Smith's resignation announcement was any mention of the SEC investigation over the accuracy of Molycorp's (MCP) disclosures. The take from 24/7's Jon Ogg: "To announce that a CEO has left the company with no explanation in the midst of a regulatory investigation is not in good taste at all. It could even be alarming." MCP -5.3% AH. [View news story]
Molycorp CEO Mark Smith is a scumbag. To leave a company like this, while under SEC investigation, is deplorable. Mark Smith drove this company into the dirt, and now he is jumping ship. If the SEC finds anything, I hope they throw his ass in jail.

  • Molycorp (MCP +15.7%) soars, taking the rest of the rare earth sector with it (AVL +6.2%, REE +11%, REMX +1.7%). Traders describe the move as the continuation of a short squeeze in Molycorp - whose shares dropped below 6 in mid-November after being in the mid-30s 7 months earlier. Adding fuel is a report Interactive Brokers has said there is insufficient stock available for short sales. [View news story]

  • Molycorp: CEO Confidence In Light Of SEC Action? [View article]
Molycorp's revenue was $200 million last quarter. Last quarter, not last year. Molycorp the company is now only valued at just $900 million. $200m revenue vs $900m market cap is jaw-dropping. If you have the guts, MCP stock is an amazing investment right now. Furthermore, the insider buying is very, very bullish. Furthermore, they beat earnings estimates last week, very bullish. So many owners of this stock have been burned, but this is a rare opportunity. If Molycorp keeps making $200 million in revenue every quarter, their market cap should equate to the stock hitting 15 or 20 soon. Now, with that said, if the SEC investigation turns up any illegal activities, the stock will drop like a rock. I for one have a hard time believing Molycorp was cooking the books. Therefore, I am buying here at 7.

  • Molycorp Down Nearly 11% In One Day - What Happened? [View article]
I'm holding MCP long-term. This stock has a legitimate chance to double in six to twelve months; very few stocks have that potential. And with the recent heavy insider buying at $10, there seems little downside risk. One more possibility not mentioned: very real chance MCP could eventually be acquired or taken out, at much higher prices.
This is fantastic speculative stock if you are able to handle the big swings.

  • Molycorp (MCP +4.8%) shares rip higher on a report that China is reducing rare earth mining licenses by 40%. The number of licenses had been 113, according to Securities Journal. The news is seen as positive for companies holding existing licenses as future competition may now be limited. Also on the move: REE +3.4%, AVL +2.6%[View news story]
Molycorp MCP has the potential for a +50% return in six months. The stock could easily climb to 18. Downside for this commodity stock is limited.

  • Is Molycorp Getting A Bum Rap? If So, It's Time To Buy [View article]
Great article, but he left out one major positive for the stock. Insider buying in MCP has been crazy lately. If insiders are loading up, that is a very bullish sign. This stock is clearly oversold.

  • Molycorp (MCP) +5.3% AH after announcing the start-up of operations at its Project Phoenix facilities at Mountain Pass, Calif., which will produce heavy rare earth concentrate to be processed into high-purity, custom-engineered heavy rare earth products. An on-site combined heat and power plant will begin feeding power and steam this week to the facilities. [View news story]
I bought at 20, sold at 17, and now I am loading up at 9.75. Will be holding this one for the long haul. Things look so bad for MCP, but its extremely unlikely this commodity company will not survive. And if it survives, it will flourish. I predict MCP will be trading in the mid 20s with twenty-four months.
