  • My Retirement Portfolio Yields 9.1% And Has Outperformed The S&P 500 By 6.5% YTD [View article]
DIVIDENDS#1 I HAVE USED A SIMILAR APPROACH WITH WMC,AGNC AND MORL FROM THE MREIT UNIVERSE AND MVO ROYT AND PER FROM THE OIL ROYALTY UNIVERSE AND CURRENTLY HAVE A 15% RETURN BUT AM MISERABLE WITH THE CAPITAL LOSSES I HAVE INCURRED. EVENTUALLY IT WILL TURN AROUND MAYBE. I HAVE ENOUGH TO LIVE ON BUT THAT IS ABOUT IT. I AM DRIPPING MY DIVIDENDS AT LEAST FOR ONE MORE YEAR.

  • 2 Things That Look Positive For Oil [View article]
why don't we repeal the jones act that mandates that US interport shipping transportation has to be in US ships and allow foreign ships to transport petroleum from houston to the east coast refineries? Quit importing oil from the middle east. I am not sure if this would raise the cost of petroleum but at least the $$ would stay in the US.

  • Saudi Arabia Vs. Shale - A Game Of Chicken! [View article]
why doesn't the USA modify the Jones act to allow non us flag tankers to ship oil from texas to the Northeast refineries and quit importing foreign oil? Or even allow the US to sell our petroleum abroad. Let us become even less dependent on foreign oil. Just asking for comments.

  • Energy, healthcare, BDCs, mREITs underperforming today [View news story]
i am using my dividends in mreits and more to buy more shares by dripping the dividends. i am counting on the magic of dividends compounding to at least maintain portfolio value. BTW wmc is selling at a premium to book value with a 16%+ return. this may not work but at least it is a plan. As for petroleum i am stuck in the tar with my only hope a middle east war to disrupt production.

  • Western Asset Mortgage Capital Corporation And Rising Interest Rates [View article]
i have for 2+ years have been using the drip method of buying more shares of wmc so if there is a correction in wmc price along the way i will be purchasing more shares along the way. what is wrong with this approach? with 32,000 shares generating $84K and going up i am delighted with WMC and intend to continue to hold it for the foreseeable future in order to enjoy the magic of compounding interest.

  • YMBC Q2 2015 Review - A Foolishly High Yield Portfolio [View article]
Darren your wonderful article and easy to understand graphs have vindicated my decision about 4 years ago to rely on pass thru investments such as merits, mlps and shudder- oil royalty stocks to fund my cash needs as i am now 80 years old. reinvesting the dividends and using the power of compounding should be emphasized also in my opinion. thanks and keep up the good work.

SORRY I MEANT 2016--YES IT IS EXPLAINED IN THE PROSPECTUS BUT IT CAUSES CONFUSION IN GUYS LIKE ME. IS IT IN USB'S INTEREST TO NOT CALL THE NOTE IN AS THEY WOULD BE GIVING UP THEIR .45% MANAGEMENT FEE? ALSO-THIS FROM MY MEMORY BANK--I BELIEVE THE CALL IN PRICE WAS $16/SHARE.

  • SeaDrill: Plan Playing Out Provides Major Long-Term Catalyst [View article]
Nice article and I thank the author and all of the authors who have taken the time to share their knowledge on SDRL. I would like to add a concern that I have about SDRL and that is what happens if JF all of a sudden dies? Having seen a photo of him 5 years ago he did not look to be a very healthy man for his age. Perhaps SDRL will luck out and go on as APPL did after Steve JOBS passed- I sure hope so. Also perhaps JF will reach the century mark--I sure hope so as we all owe him a debt for having the foresight to form SDRL.

  • Update On The DRIP And Forget Portfolio [View article]
how about a drip and forget portfolio with merits such as WMC-price $14.30 dividend $2.80, AGNC price $22.90 dividend $2.60, MVO- oil royalty price $23 dividend around $3.20, MORL and ENF price $20.40 dividend $4+ ? all are annual dividends and do vary but are in the ball park figures i quoted. Of course there is risk associated but going forward in the near future there is no way the FED can raise interest rates in this deflationary world. I have these stocks and an ETF in my IRA and am 79. To me this is the ONLY way to make a decent return in the stock market. Comments welcome. Curious George

  • Raise Of Dividend To 18.5% Makes Western Asset Mortgage Look Attractive [View article]
I am a drip income investor at age 79 with a five year horizon. I plan to sell 10,000 shares 2-3 days after the ex dividend date and buy with the money MORL an ETN @ a price of about $21/share and a monthly dividend payer with this next dividend of 96 cents. I will hold MORL FOR A FEW DAYS PAST THE EX DATE sell it and rebuy WMC IF THE PRICE IS RIGHT. I HAVE DONE THIS BEFORE. What does the readership think of this? This is all within my IRA.
