They are not that highly correlated because- oil is mainly used as a trasportation fuel though a small percent is used as raw materials for producing plastics. Where as wind and solar produce electricity whose main competitors are coal, nuclear and natural gas.
In the long run what really matters is the price of electricity for wind and solar not the price of oil. Though oil price may have some impact in terms of material cost but in the operations terms only the price of electricity matters.
