You are that obnoxious kid at the end of the Simpsons. There is no competition coming next month. The Abbvie cocktail, whenever it comes, contains a drug w/ side effects for liver.

Memorize this, put a tune to it, then you'll hear something in your head- as an alternative to HA HA.

    Thank you Jason Harris.

The idea that there are lots of people that can uproot their lives for medical tourism is ridiculous. If you have the wherewithal to afford all that, you almost certainly have the insurance, or spare cash to stay here and get treated. Thank you for putting it down much better than I would have.

Wow! Norvir sounds like a drug you would only take in the most dire of circumstances. Doesn't sound like any doctor would prescribe given the Gilead combo. Sounds as bad as all those Interferon therapies- and they are tough.

So he figures one pill once a day gives the combo a great advantage over drug cocktails taken more than once a day. Also for those only taking meds for 8 weeks, the price would be 2/3 of the 12 week price? I hate to be slow here, but the transcription not all that great. And of course he's not going to price it 'til he has to. And even after the combo is out, stand alone Sovaldi will still be available.

Did I get anything materially wrong?

    Worst possible news;
#1 The combo is NOT approved in Oct.
#2 The competition proves more effective and cheaper
#3 Congress finally does SOMETHING, controls price
#4 Insurers require "death bed" declaration before they'll pay
#5 Thousands move to sunny, peaceful Egypt for treatment
#6 Gilead loses all patent cases
    #7 Market tanks
    #8 The unforeseen

All possible, all fairly unlikely except #8. I agree, when things are looking this good it's probably because we are blind to the doom just around the corner. But at this point the pros outweigh the cons (unless something is hidden behind door #8.)

Climbing a wall of worry? I got an e-mail this morning with an article about GILD shares falling because of licensing agreements providing affordable Sovaldi to third world countries. Talk of counterfeits and bootlegging. Also talk of competition, Abbvie is supposedly close to unveiling their multi-drug cocktail (taken more than once a day WITH side effects.)

Providing a cure to the poorer countries of the world- the right thing to do, karma, good will, whatever you call it, GILD has done it before and will do it again.

Competition- good luck to them. The Gilead combo, first, best, easiest, 90%+ cure rate.

Counterfeits, bootlegged drugs? Gilead has dealt with before. Always going to happen. Hopefully not huge issue.

I think/hope that the GILD combo will be recognized for the miracle drug that it is and most of these worries will melt away. Oct. 10th marked on my calendar.

Anyone aware of the status of Abbvie's entry?

You are the only one who knows about this "competition", can you provide a link? Or do you have an agenda?

  • Gilead: No Stopping This Juggernaut [View article]
bioguy.........from a person I know connected to the trials, Abbvie trials will start soon. Not really familiar with the stages, but if this is the final stage (3 or 4?) I would think it a year and a half or more before FDA approval. This all pretty much a guess following what I know of the GILD trials. And that would be true only if the stuff is effective. It's not soon.

From what I read, Abbvie is a drug cocktail taken more than once a day. One of the drugs can have side effects for the liver. Compared with once a day, no side effects from the GILD combo. Which one do you think will be preferred by doctors and patients? Like the obnoxious kid in the Simpsons says, Ha Ha

  • Gilead Sciences: Time To Take Profits? [View article]
My Jan. 2016 calls are up 200%. I own GILD at an average of $76.

Can things really be that positive? The combo will be first and best and be in high demand. What could go wrong? Alien abduction? Rampant fraud, waste and abuse? I know there are no guarantees, but this company seems well run, they have good products, and they seem to want to do well by doing good.

I can't imagine selling. If you can't invest in a company like this, you should bury your money in a coffee can and wait for a better opportunity.

$300 sounds good. Could you arrange it by Jan. 2016? Need to modernize my 1950s bathroom. Thanks. :-)

  • Gilead: Let's Make A Deal [View article]
I can tell you this re "cure." I finished a 12 week course of the GILD combo + Ribavirin in early 2013. I am also in the 3 year follow-up study. I had genotype 1. I was cleared of the virus in the first few weeks, and have been checked every six months since- still virus free. Turns out I have two more years of appts., every six months.

I guess there is some teeny tiny chance that there is a little virus hiding in there- some horrible new "Alien" creature. And that is at least most of the reason for the three year study. After my clean blood test last month, I am ok about saying the "cure" word.

  • Gilead: Earnings Forecast Justifies $140 Price Target [View article]
A friend died a few years ago. I had not seen her in several years, but a mutual friend said she was being treated for Hep-c. Whatever treatment she was on (I assume with Interferon, don't really know) her condition deteriorated over a year's time, she suffered quite a bit and finally died.

You used the word barbaric. I think that's an apt description of her treatment. After retirement, I was looking at one of those old treatments when I got the chance to be in the drug trial. Talk about winning the lottery! Twelve relatively easy weeks and I was cured.

Whenever I get the chance on here I say "Miracle drug." Compared to what people went through not too long ago, the GILD combo is a miracle.

Halukcan- I think after 4 hours you go to the ER. Seriously, I think permanent damage is possible. Maybe a reason counterfeit Sovaldi not such a good idea.

You just stated the reason it will never happen. Why invest billions in R&D when your upside is limited. That's so simple even Congressmen from Texas can understand it. (and they just aren't too bright- see Louie Gohmert :-)
