  • Retirees: What Is The Best Choice For A Small Income Portfolio? [View article]
Good to point that out to folks. This is why we hold KMR in our IRA' s and KMP in our regular accounts we draw income from. I get the fear of K1 for your sister but most of us shouldn't let that shy us away. If your tax man charges an additional penny to include them.....get another tax man.

English and grammar lessons are not needed here, the average investor is smart enough to get it and does not care. Great article Bob.

  • Seadrill's Dividend Does Not Look Sustainable [View article]
I am OK with that and have total faith. I don't view the dividend action in SDRL like we do KO, PG, JNJ etc. This is more of a REIT mentality...and I am OK with that. Let the dividend pull back to a healthy level.

  • The Portland-Montreal Pipeline is the latest battleground in a protracted campaign by anti-oil sands’ groups to choke off Canadian access to U.S. markets. The operator of the little-known pipeline linking Montreal and Maine is studying how to make the line the first route to get Canadian oil sands crude to an Atlantic deepwater port, but the plan relies on supplies that may not be available for years. [View news story]
    What pipeline?

  • Coca-Cola: How Safe Is The Dividend? [View article]
Time for a pull back in KO? Please let the markets turn against them, it's been the only chance we have ever had to add to our positions over the recent decades. Like some readers have mentioned, all time highs, a way of life for the Coke investor.

  • Digging Into Seadrill's Dividend [View article]
Long_on_oil is spot on here. You can't compare the SDRL business model to anything else in the oil patch right now. The traders [and writers] that understand this model have learned and earned in the Real Estate REIT market for years. It's not for the average investor who reads everything they can about the Graham and Buffett models that will "get' the SDRL model. We don't require the "must grow the dividend a little every year" in this position. In fact most of us that follow and own SeaDrill will not be put off by a reduction in dividend when new builds come on line and there is a slight pull back in earnings for a couple of cycles. It almost gives us more confidence in management.

  • Maximizing Dividend Reinvestment [View article]
I think we are trying to find the "right approach" to reinvesting dividends and honestly there is no right answer. It depends on the investor and the time they are able to put into research etc.

If you put grandma and grandpa into GE, PG, KO, CVX and MO for a long term reinvestment plan and they really don't want to be bothered with it....it's best to just let each position reinvest into itself. At best they may only let you sit down with them to rebalance the account in January.

If you are a motor head that spends your days on Seeking Alpha I think you would be better off taking cash from all your dividends and buying each position on the dips.

  • Maximizing Dividend Reinvestment [View article]
If a broker is charging you to reinvest your dividends....get a new broker. We refer most retail investors to Sharebuilder mainly due to the fact that they will reinvest all dividends free of charge. No matter how small the fractional shares are.
