  • AT&T Vs. Johnson & Johnson: Dividend Yield Vs. Dividend Growth [View article]
Agreed freebra, but it's not just the Buffett Group. I have done well trading against them by watching volumes. If you look at the volume and size of the purchases coming through you can sniff them out. All the while trading with them.

@bmsmith....yea, love following Uncle Warren and hold BRK.B in all of our long term funds. But it is nerve racking trading against his tide. We have continued to add to our JNJ and GE positions while he is selling them off.

  • LDK Solar's Price Spike Offers Chance To Add To Short Position [View article]
Got out of this a few years back, left a tiny position in one of our funds, more for the humor of it then anything. But LDK just paid me a dividend this morning....What the heck is that? I can't find record of any previous dividend, anybody?

  • Transocean (RIG -1.7%) shares are lower despite Goldman Sachs' upgrade following "noteworthy underperformance" vs. offshore drilling peers. Although RIG operates one of the oldest fleets in the industry and may continue to face downtime and cost issues, the firm thinks "risk-reward has recently come more into balance" and expects RIG to beat Q3 consensus estimates. [View news story]

  • The Seadrill Conundrum [View article]
I think that SDRL suffers from "new kid on the block" syndrome. I talk to traders every day that are scared of their SeaDrill position while adding to their position on the dips in RIG. A business model on the opposite end of the spectrum. The Seadrill story is safe for now, there is a reason they are number #1 in the sector. My concerns, succession at the top.

  • Pepsi Or Coke For The Long Term? [View article]
I guess an investor should stress it if they are limiting themselves to a 5 position fund or something like that. But like Rick, every one of my family members hold both.

  • Seadrill (SDRL -1.9%) is cut to Neutral at HSBC Securities, which notes industry fundamentals remain strong but the surprise factor is limited. The firm says $4B of ultra-deepwater contracts in July are a clear sign of drilling market momentum, but upside to market expectations is more limited vs. elsewhere in oil services. Also, SDRL plans to sell $1B in unsecured notes via a private offering for institutional investors. [View news story]
Consider this a blessing from HSBC. Those of us who have been in SDRL for some time have grown nervous with the new interest in the media for SeaDrill. Kinda prefer flying under the radar on this one. Like Goldman Sachs, we have done well over the years taking the other side of the trade against HSBC.

  • Good Dividend Payer BreitBurn Energy Partners Brightens Its Future With New Oil Asset Purchases [View article]
BBEP is one of our latest additions, we believe it's one of the most "overlooked" U.S. domestic producers.

We have made a fortune taking the opposite side of the trade on Goldman Sachs energy calls, but would have to agree. If you are looking for the perfect "buy price" wait for tax sell off time in November/December. But most retail investors would do better to add to names like BreitBurn on a regular basis.

We have been adding to our COP position and will admit it always make me uneasy betting against Uncle Warren. Buffett is trimming COP and adding to PSX.
