  • CommonWealth REIT Responds to Corvex/Related Record Date Request [View article]
As a shareholder in Commonwealth REIT, I have the opinion that CWH has been mismanaged for many years. I received a copy of the Consent Statement from Corvex/Related on April 22, 2013 and I have read it.

I plan to sign the white card because I agree with what Keith Meister, Jeff T. Blau and Richard O'Toole have to say about Barry Portnoy, Adam Portnoy, and the other CWH trustees.

If you are a common shareholder of CWH, I would appreciate your comments on the Consent Statement of Corvex Management LP.

Also, if you agree with my comments, click favorable please. Thanks.

  • Are The Markets Rigged? [View article]
Cash in the bank earns nothing today. US Treasuries earn very little. If one can find a company ( NLY comes to mind ) that provides a return with manageable risk, then perhaps one can get a RETURN ON INVESTMENT and a RETURN OF YOUR INVESTMENT.

I find it is hard to be a small investor in this world we live in.

jargon1, Excellent comments. I remember when the SEC had to remind some short sellers that naked short selling was illlegal. On this site, I once said that all short selling should be illegal.

  • Are The Markets Rigged? [View article]
As I read the analogy to basketball, I said to myself "What's this writer talking about"? Then I skipped to the comments.

I feel that the market is rigged against retail investors like myself. The biggest problem I have is "can I trust a company's management".

For example, I remember the former management of General Motors saying "bankruptcy is not on the table". The CEO of Corus Bank said " the bank is well capitalized". CORS was closed by the FDIC. Bill Walton, CEO of Allied Capital never ( to my knowledge) said the firm was in trouble. Neither did the CEO's of Countrywide, Wachovia, etc, etc.

David Kotok, of Cumberland Advisors, recently said "the stock market is a zero sum zero game". Meaning 50% are winners and 50% are losers. I agree with him.

I never bought GM, or Countrywide, I sold ALD and Wachovia in a timely manner, I lost $36,000.00 on CORS and I lost about 100K on ACAS.

I know of people who lost everything in "The Market". There has to be a better way than a zero sum zero game..

  • Annaly: Continuity, Confirmation And Dividends Will Keep This Stock A Solid Buy [View article]
I would rather like to see the compensation put into the yearly prospectus. This document is sometimes not sent to shareholders when they request a copy of the annual report.

Whenever I request an annual report, I also request the prospectus. If you never get to read the yearly prospectus, then you are not fully informed as to what management is doing. It is possible that some companies put executive names and compensation into their annual reports...but I have not seen this data in any annual reports I have read.

I don't like it either. Did you know that, in addition to their salaries, Farrell and Welly were given bonuses. For the years 2009, 2010, and 2011 each of them received bonuses totaling 95 Million dollars. I think the bonuses were excessive.

We can also blame the people in the investment firms who sell the new stock. I do not know of any firm on Wall Street or any mutual fund that has written articles on how RMR operates. Most of the articles I have read are on SeekingAlpha and there have been some on Bloomberg.

If you are a shareholder, contact Barry Portnoy and the BOD and tell them you want a special distribution of the proceeds on the sale of the GOV shares I am long CWH.

  • 17.5% Dividend Payer Apollo Global Management Is Executing Exceptionally [View article]
Yahoo is incorrect when they use only the last quarter's EPS to calculate the yield. Yahoo and you are projecting out into the next four quarters AND EXPECTING that the company will pay the same dividend as the last quarter.

You should have calculated the yield using the last 4 quarters and used 8.09% in your title.

    esoxlucios,

Perhaps some shareholders who are underwater are hoping that RMR, Adam Portnoy, Barry Portnoy and the BOD will be exposed and the SEC will look into the matter.

I think the plaintiffs are correct. I will read the brief. CWH has been mismanaged for many years.

TA, I believe, was one of the RMR arranged spinoffs from Hospitality Properties Trust. I think the IPO for TA was around $43.00 per share.

I own shares of CWH and HPT and I agree that both companies are mismanaged by RMR and the boards of directors.

  • Monday Market Movement: Buffett Tells It Like It Is [View article]
I disagree with Buffett regarding dividends. I am 70 years old and I did not have the wealth that one needed to buy Berkshire stock when it was at about $50,000.00 per share. I was able to retire at 55 and live comfortably on dividends until the market crash in 2007.

There are a lot of people my age who had counted on capital appreciation in their homes, bonds and stocks who cannot comfortably retire because they have lost a tremendous amount of principal in their investments AND most companies do not pay more than 3% in dividends!

It annoys me when wealthy CEO's, who earn one million dollars ( or more) in compensation pay so little to shareholders.

I deserve a return on my investment as well as a return of my investment. I know of dozens of companies that lost shareholder value over the last 30 years.

  • Kimco's 2009 Dividend Cut Weighs On Our Outlook [View article]
The return on invested capital of 1.9% and 2% is too low and I consider a dividend less than 7% to be too low too.

I tried to enlarge your data sheet and I could only view about one third of the top of the page.

    Dear Brad,
I do not have enough time to read all the articles on investing. I would appreciate it if you would put the stock symbols into the name of your articles. Then, if I am not interested in the article, I can easily skip it when I review my emails from Seekingalpha.

I think Elliott wrote an excellent article. The comments are good too.

One can understand the difference between the interests of shareholders and the interests of management. I have seen too many instances where the interests of management are put ahead of the interests of shareholders...and shareholders cannot do anything about it. Commonwealth REIT, CWH, comes to mind.
