  • Pres. Obama today: "I think it would be hard for the Republicans to stand there and say that tax breaks for corporate jets [are] sufficiently important that we're not willing to... get a deal done." John Boehner: "His administration has been burying our kids and grandkids in new debt and offered no plan to rein in spending." Does this sound like two sides coming together toward a debt ceiling deal?  [View news story]
MANAGEMENTJUNE 30, 2011.Pay Tally Up 19% for Finance Chiefs .

    By JAMES WILLHITE
Median pay for chief financial officers of S&P 500 companies surged 19% to $2.9 million last year, as profits and stock valuations rebounded and some finance chiefs assumed broader responsibilities, according to a Wall Street Journal survey.

CFO pay varied widely, from less than $600,000 to more than $60 million. Five CFOs received more than $20 million in compensation. Growth in pay partly reflected the growing clout and multiple responsibilities of some finance chiefs, and moves by some companies to combine the function with others.

The American people want the rich to be taxed. They want redistribution of concentrated capital accumulation. They want prosperity for everyman, for the workers, for the tired backs that companies stand on, not just for conglomerates, CEOs, and large investors. Stand up and represent the American people, not a few wealthy constituent buddies, Republicans. You are not fooling anyone.

So this is what compromising is? Democrats agree to TRILLIONS in spending cuts for some measly billions in taxes on the rich and the end of oil subsidies? Someone is winning big time in this deal, and it isn't the Democrats and it isn't the American people. To cut trillions in spending with 9.1% unemployment is going to prolong this slump and ruin millions of people financially -- but of course they have no money for high paid lobbyists so their concerns are never addressed in Washington.

"It's not socialism to ask them to pay something," Bartlett writes, adding that "the growth of the non-income-taxpaying population is largely a result of Republican tax policies."  [View news story]
