Illumina: Thermo Fisher-Life Deal Unlikely To Threaten Its Market-Leading Position [View article]
I wouldn't bet the farm on ILMN maintaining the technology lead in genetic sequencing, It took a lot of guts for Life Technologies to buy Ion Torrent and let their SOLiD sequencer business atrophy.

Really??? So it must be Morgan Stanley that is paying you to write this article and it Morgan Stanley that is paying Seeking Alpha to publish your article. Why not tell us these relevant facts???
Cree Finally Joins Edison Bulb Flock, Via Best Buy [View article]
CREE makes the best LED chips in the world, period. Their light bulbs are worth the premium over cheap Chinese knock-offs. Priced at $12.99 and $16.99 is comparable to Home Depot and Lowe's pricing of 40Watt and 60Watt equivalent LED bulbs. The real question is, "what is the profit margin on these Insignia light bulbs?"
The problem with CFLs are: (1) they are acutely hazardous since they contain mercury; (2) they are not dimmable; (3) CFLs flicker and the CRI is around 60% vs. CREE LED bulbs around 90%.
Consumers buy quality. There is a good reason that CFLs are sold in 99 Cent stores - because they are cheap junk!
I agree that Illumina is the market leader as the above article shows. However, why didn't Roche up their offer? What does Illumina gain by not negotiating with Roche? How is this in the best interest of the shareholders? Please explain, TIA.

Illumina has been the best on the market for quite some time. It has been the leader in sequencing since surpassing Affymetrix, Inc (AFFX) some years ago. It still dominates the market in revenues and technology but Life technologies (LIFE) has gained some traction. Its technology puts them, in my opinion, as still the number one option for institutions and firms for research and development."
Life Technologies has gained some traction? Are you kidding? Life Technologies is the reason that Illumina shares dropped like a lead brick from $75+/share down to $25/share.
Why should Roche pay top dollar for Illumina when they are no longer the fastest growing company in the industry?
Yes, your article is all about Illumina, but with blinders on.

Didn't Illumina's shares decline also because Life Technologies Ion Torrent was taking sales away from Illumina?
Isn't it odd that Jay Flatley announced the new HiSeq 2500 two hours after Life Technologies announced their $1,000/human genome machine Ion Proton on January 10, 2012?
Why do you not mention Life Technologies or Oxford Nanopore in the race for supplying DNA Sequencing Machines for clinical testing?
STEC management was noticeably silent to the stock market's 40% hair cut reaction today to the blind-siding that STEC management gave to its shareholders yesterday afternoon.
I would be shocked if most major STEC investors didn't ask for STEC CEO's head on a platter.
