  • First 3D HDTV, Next 3D Printers? The Long Case For 3D Systems [View article]
Thanks Kyan for your inputs about these two 3D players. I am long with BOTH. Whereas your rationale makes sense, you may be aware that not-publicly listed companies are also in this market, and some are quite hype (e.g. Makerbot). Most of them are aiming at the B2C mass market, fair enough. Whereas DDD and SSYS are not really start-up, they can be challenged by heavily VC-fueled ones. So one cannot say which compani(es) are likely to really succeed the most. Will DDD be able to develop this B2C market or will Makerbot and others prevail? SSYS is already very expensive, but well connected with HP and other high-end business. I am not sure the market is not overvaluating SSYS to DDD, which would make DDD a better choice for those who want to enter this market. I prefer, from far, the much crystal-clear communication of DDD compare with SSYS which seems to be very careful at seeding the hype, and seems to like its crazy PER. Conversely, the SSYS strategy looks very robust for the long term and will protect them from B2C-like-Markerbot. So to make a long story short, I cannot see a clear winner, and I prefer to invest in several companies of this great technology. Should there be a couple of other IPOs, I may even add them to for the same reasons. So we must stay tuned :) Any feedback very much welcomed of course!
