PS: Don't forget that, because Apple spreads out its iPhone revenue over eight quarters, there's a lot of unrecognized earnings in the pipeline. (As Andy Zaky has repeatedly pointed out on this site.) It was this revenue that was the greatest contributor to last week's upside earnings surprise for the Dec. quarter. There will be more such surprises (vs. the Street's consensus EPS expectations) going forward.

It's been pointed out on Mac sites that the demo version of Windows 7 that reviewers are using probably lacks the DRM features that the real release will have to have, which will slow it down and complicate it. Also, the increasingly important objection to Windows isn't just its unfriendliness, but its vulnerability to malware, as recent headlines remind us. Markoff's piece in the NYT a month or two ago estimated the cost of malware at $100 billion worldwide per year, virtually none of it on the Mac side. (Windows defenders say, "Wait 'til next year" for malware to strike the Mac, but they've been saying that for five years. It's not going to happen in any significant way, owing to the fundamental architecture of its OS.)
