  • BlackBerry slides as doubts grow about Fairfax's offer [View news story]
With a deal like Prem's I would go to MSFT/HP or anybody else and offer them the company for 6 bucks a share. That's a better deal than Prem's and it gives you a deep pocketed investor that gives you some breathing room during a restructuring.

  • BlackBerry slides as doubts grow about Fairfax's offer [View news story]
Blackberry shareholders really have a winner with this company. How many companies get a buyout bid and actually go down in price after the buyout bid. Good luck if you're long because you're going to need it.

  • Death Before Dishonor: 5 Reasons I'm Not Backing The BlackBerry Buyout Anymore [View article]
I wish some others would have your humility in admitting they're wrong. After having the stock price halved and halved again they were still crowing about buying more shares and what a great value play BBRY was.

MKM just came out and said there is a chance Fairfax might lower their bid during discovery so many think that there will be no more bids and the final price might be lower than 9 bucks.

  • Fairfax not putting additional cash into Blackberry [View news story]
Now watch them ram this deal through by changing the proxy voting rules like Dell did. Dell got them to change the voting rules so that they only needed the majority of the votes cast to approve the deal instead of a non-voting share counting as a no vote.

  • Fairfax not putting additional cash into Blackberry [View news story]
I am beginning to agree this whole thing was orchestrated to allow Watsa to make a rock bottom bid to allow BBRY to go private. It's laughable he doesn't have the financing lined up nor is his consortium finalized yet he makes a bid at what coincidentally is a few cents more than where the stock closed on Friday. It's a fair question as to why he didn't make the bid last week when the stock was higher.

  • BlackBerry to be acquired by Fairfax-led consortium for $9/share [View news story]
I know most shareholders won't like the 9 buck offer but it's in the companies best interest to take this low ball bid. BBRY is in a death spiral facing a second major restructuring in 3 years, they have a lot of difficult decisions that may take time and they'll have the opportunity to do that as a private company without the constant pressure for results as a public company.

  • Assessing The Fallout From The BlackBerry Disaster [View article]
I have been curious in your disclosure about not owning the stock. Why haven't you bought the stock given your bullish long term assessment of the company.

  • Reports: Lazaridis weighing bid for BlackBerry [View news story]
Randal - The Canadian government is not coming to the rescue of BBRY. They didn't for NT and unlike the auto companies who they did bail out, BBRY does not have a web of dealerships, auto parts suppliers and tens of thousands of jobs that revolved around the auto companies. The best they can hope for in government assistance is allowing some latitude in the ICA.

  • BlackBerry's Spiral Into Oblivion Is Accelerating - Epilogue [View article]
Way too early to consider a bounce trade. BBRY is just approaching oversold territory for the first time in months and will probably hover in oversold territory for months before you may see a bounce.

The company is in a death spiral now, if you thought phone sales were bad I think they get even worse especially on the enterprise side with this news of massive layoffs and the $1B loss. They'll have to sell every phone they have in the channel at a loss and why manufacture new phones when the market for them is virtually frozen.

BBRY needs a deep pocketed investor ASAP and should sell at any price near 10 bucks a share.

  • Reports: Lazaridis weighing bid for BlackBerry [View news story]
Chances would be better if Lazaridis had the net worth to pull off the deal himself but he doesn't. I said in a previous post that he would need $7-8B to make a serious bid but I think you can pick up BBRY for $5B now. If someone offers 10 bucks a share for the company the BOD better take it.

  • BlackBerry issues FQ2 warning, cutting 4,500 jobs [View news story]
The revenue and device numbers are shocking. If anybody didn't think BB10 was a bust, they ought to believe it now.

  • WSJ: BlackBerry set to cut workforce by up to 40% [View news story]
No other news source reported the huge layoffs, they only reported the WSJ article and BBRY said they wouldn't comment on rumors and only confirmed their "right sizing" the company.

I have to say it's a dubious story right now, that earnings report on the 27th just got more interesting.

  • BlackBerry: Buy Now Or Buy It Cheaper Later? [View article]
That table is valuable. I'm not a big fan of buying ahead of earnings anyway but this table tells you the odds are not in your favor if you're considering buying the stock ahead of earnings.

People say expectations are low and all the bad news has been discounted but I'm not buying it.

  • Apple slides following China Unicom reservation data [View news story]
Just another misstep by Apple. They should have produced a phone designed strictly for the Asian market, plenty of companies produce products for different markets. Bunch of boneheads are running this company since Jobs died.
