  • China plans to cut coal use, shut polluters, to improve air quality [View news story]
It's not just Beijing, here's the quote from the article.

"Beijing's action plan for clean air echoed a national air pollution prevention and treatment plan, which was also released on Thursday on the central government's website."

  • Report: Fairfax struggling to line up BlackBerry buyers [View news story]
Just saw on Bloomberg that BBRY is intending to meet with Canadian gov't officials about the Investment Canada Act. Looks like they are getting their ducks in line in case of a foreign buyout.

  • BlackBerry Short Sellers Are Not Out Of The Woods Yet [View article]
Now that the company is in play you're making too much of the short interest. The price of the stock is realistically capped with the pending buyout, the only way the short interest makes BBRY look like Tesla is if BBRY stays public and is able to turn around their business dramatically.

I assign the chances of a dramatic turnaround for BBRY as low and it won't be this quarter. IMO, this will be a disastrous quarter with the lack of consumer demand for their BB10 phones and the enterprise not picking up the slack because of concern for their future.

  • Report: Fairfax struggling to line up BlackBerry buyers [View news story]
Why is anybody surprised that Canadian pension funds are not supportive of a BBRY buyout. Pension funds Canadian or not have a fiduciary responsibility to make prudent investments. Clearly BBRY is not a prudent one, it's speculative at best and certainly not worth a multi-billion dollar investment by any single fund.

The Canadian money was the best chance for BBRY to be taken private so I think that option is out the window if this report is accurate.

  • With A 57% Year-Over-Year Decline, Walter Energy Is Not Traveling North Anytime Soon [View article]
What is the price of met coal? I see CAPP coal prices are hovering at 6 month lows and NG is still below $4. If met coal prices are behaving like CAPP and NG you probably are correct about WLT.

  • WSJ: Apple evaluating 4.8"-6" iPhones [View news story]
Apple has lost their edge. Late to market with a larger phone, smart watch and their TV. If they can't innovate they should at least be nimble.

  • Why Microsoft Should Buy BlackBerry Post Nokia And Rule The Galaxy As Father And Son [View article]
I hear you but I think the response of both shareholders and the analyst community would be overwhelmingly negative if they did a deal for all of BBRY.

  • Why Microsoft Should Buy BlackBerry Post Nokia And Rule The Galaxy As Father And Son [View article]
You make it sound like 8B dollars is small change, it's a lot of money regardless of the % of their cash.

One of the reasons I doubt it happens is the criticism they took for the Nokia deal, most analysts were critical of the deal. Can you imagine the furor over a BBRY deal plus their shareholders would be livid.

  • BlackBerry In Dire Straits And Why I'm Still Not Buying [View article]
Whether your a bull or bear on the stock, both will get their answer soon about the stock. But I don't think you will see a sale of the company until after the earnings report so potential suitors can assess the damage from eroding device sales.

  • Reports: BlackBerry looking to find buyer by Nov., Microsoft "keeping an eye" [View news story]
Other than this specific time frame of November there is nothing new to this story. WSJ quoting unnamed sources, all or part of the company is for sale, no guarantees the company will be sold or if there will be serious bids, they have had discussions with a number of interested parties.

  • BlackBerry, networking stocks surge in response to Microsoft/Nokia [View news story]
BBRY stock tries your patience. Nokia sympathy rally?? It's up a whole 12 cents, heck most tech stocks are up more than 12 cents without any rumors of a buyout.

  • Microsoft tumbles following Nokia deal [View news story]
I said back before MSFT got into the tablet business that they needed to manufacture their own tablet to compete with Apple but nobody would believe that they could pull it off. Well they did get into the tablet business with their Surface tablet and they didn't pull it off, it was a massive failure.

Buying Nokia an established manufacturer is not going to solve their problems. They'll alienate the other OEMs producing Win8 phones and what makes them think that making Nokia phones under the MSFT umbrella name is going to get them more market share than a joint MSFT/Nokia phone. The only thing they'll get out of this is a new CEO for 7B dollars. BRILLIANT

  • Obama to seek Congressional approval on Syria strikes: Clarity or more uncertainty? [View news story]
When you have saber rattlers like McCain saying it will be a "catastrophe" if the US does not respond you know there is a good chance the US will say world opinion be damned and bomb Syria.

Statcounter contradicts many others that show BBRY losing ground to Windows phones and falling to 4th place in the US. If you have an explanation as to why, I would love to hear it.

  • Obama to seek Congressional approval on Syria strikes: Clarity or more uncertainty? [View news story]
I will be sadly disappointed but not surprised if Congress does vote for a military response, too many Americans favor some kind of action to rule out a strike on Syria.

I am bitterly disappointed at Obama for supporting a unilateral military response. He should have taken the stance that Syria's actions were an affront to the entire international community and that he would side with an internationally coordinated response but would not act alone.
