Good points. Probably correct that AAPL will capture a much greater audience with the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, but for most the difference is not that much to plunk down for an iPhone 5.

It is possible that AAPL destroys the analyst estimates. We will see how the pre-order weekend sales look on Monday. Remember that iPhone 4 pre-orders were 600,000, iPhone 4S pre-orders were 1 million. Anything north of 1 million for iPhone 5 in pre-orders will be considered a success. I am looking for 1.5 million pre-orders which is in line with previous numbers which is a knock it out of the ball park number.

I have seen Cantina Bell commercials during the British Open this week and they are hitting the right customer base which will negatively impact CMG.

I am not confident that CMG can hit their numbers with the impact of food cost inflation without significant price increases which they have indicated would not happen this year.

Overall, I agree with your recommendation.

shompa: the estimates are the consensus from analysts, not the company. The company projected earnings of $8.68 and revenue of $34 billion for Q3.

That being said, I don't see AAPL going below $560 on a minor earnings miss at $10 EPS vs. consensus at $10.37 because at a 12.65 TTM PE multiple which is approximately the lowest that AAPL has traded at over the past few years would still give a $560 price. That 12.65 TTM PE multiple is important to remember in the event that AAPL falls after earnings. It is highly unusual to breach that TTM PE multiple, but could happen intraday.

I think that AAPL will report revenues north of $38 billion and EPS of over $11 per share based mostly on the strength of the iPad and Mac sales. My actual estimates are below:

28.5 million iPhones (based on 2.7 million Verizon iPhones sold which is an 18.5% decline vs. Q1 of 3.2 million)

20 million iPads (based on 11.3 million iPads in Q1 and only 2 weeks of sales for iPad 3 in Q1) - in line with Needam's estimates
4.5 million Macs (vs. consensus estimate of 4.3 million) - some strength based on late Q3 Mac refresh and Mac market share increases reported in the press

6.6 million iPods (vs. consensus estimate of 6.6 million iPods) - decline from 7.7 million iPods in Q1

Q3 revenue of $39 billion vs. $39.2 billion in Q2 and EPS $12 in Q3 vs. $12.30 in Q2.
While I would prefer to be in BAC from $6.78, there is still significant upside from $7.80. Analysts were wrong on JPM and WFC and will likely be too low on C as well. GS may not impress much since they have pulled back on their aggressive approach to trading.

All in all, I think that BAC will beat estimates of 15 cents and get back into the high $8s to low $9s and then will re-evaluate the situation. Last Q, $10 was resistance and then the stock plummeted after earnings to close in the mid-$8s for earnings week. I think that we will see the opposite effect as banks run through August since mortgage originations could be stronger than anticipated.
