    A Journal of Investing paper (vol. 17.3, pp. 35-46, Fall 2008) computes the margin of safety for largely publicly traded companies and shows that the typical margin is 25% of more of the share price. The paper is titled "Deep-Value Investing, Fundamental Risks, and the Margin of Safety".
