  • A Low-Risk Citigroup Earnings Trade [View article]
Steady, I have no idea if Kevin is a profitable trader. However, if one has enough 100% losses like the Google trade, even the deepest pockets will empty.

Napoleon, I tried the 30 day T3 course and was impressed. I paper traded with mixed results, and lost a fair amount of capital when I went live. I also tried the 7 day trial, but I found the guys to be the "Monday Morning Quarterback" types. The position listing is not very transparent, as it doesn't show a time stamp or position size. While 7 days may be too soon to form a full appraisal, I'm broke. I read that less than 10% of day traders are profitable.

I am by no means defending the strategy (I lost big about a year ago), but I think there must be something Kevin is doing to keep himself in the business (if trading is his primary source of income). I've tried several strategies this past year, and I've lost money in everything.

I've concluded that I am not a day trader. When trading, my intellect becomes subservient to my emotions. Somewhere along the way, my logic gives way to subjective impulses like fear and greed.

A trader with perfect rationality may be successful with an imperfect strategy. However a perfect strategy is doomed to fail if it is paired with imperfect rationality.

Soprano and GL, I don't see it as rubbing salt in the wound at all. Quite the contrary, as people have to pay for this type of mentoring. In my brief experiment with the system, I had about a 75% win rate. However, my losers FAR outweighed my winners.

One book or one week of training will not make anyone an expert at anything.

glworden: great discussion! I'm not a day trader. I typically use dividend plays, and am more of a macro investor. I came across Kevin's GOOG earnings post, and checked out his daily options strategy. I bought his book, as the lure of a little extra juice through daily options was tempting. I did some paper trading of the system, and then decided to allocate $10k of my portfolio towards this method. It got cleaned out pretty quickly.

As mentioned, I bought ATM GOOG Jun 600 calls in May on the indicators. I was up maybe $0.25, and then the markets sunk in June. I didn't have a stop loss, and held on until they were virtually worthless. I like GOOG as a company with a fair P/E and a clean balance sheet, so I didn't mind holding. Being new to options, I underestimated the effect of time decay. In the end I lost out on the daily trade, and the GOOG rally by not having a trading plan, as you mentioned. It's hard to be both a day trader and a fundamental trader simultaneously.

As you say, trade management contributes to success far more than any other variable.

glworden: Further to the above, I cannot comment on Kevin's system as I do not have the experience nor education to further contribute to what has been said by far greater minds like yourself, SteadyOptions, and SopranoFan. However I will say that ATM GOOG 600 calls annihilated me back in May. Had I used deep ITM weeklies, I would have lived to see another day, as SopranoFan put it. Had I bought and held the stock outright (as I'm accustomed to), I would've be able to participate in the 25% rally. Hindsight's 20/20.

SteadyOptions: no disrespect intended. On another post, Kevin wrote "Then you should be thanking me" in regards to Kim's success:

glworden: I've dipped my toes in daily options trading, and have been wiped out. It's mostly my fault, as I let small gains turn into massive losses. Lessons learned, and it's back to basics for me. If it was that easy to earn $500/day, everyone would be doing it.

I don't understand the bad blood between Kevin and Klaiman. Was Klaiman a former apprentice and rogue student of Kevin's? "He is young, but the force is strong in this one."

  • Use Caution Buying CF Industries Call Options At This Level [View article]
I know Kevin hasn't responded, but in a way I can see where he's coming from. Pete Renzulli has a great analogy in that if you run a pizzeria and someone comes in asking for a taco, you turn them away because you don't specialize in tacos.

I'm no apologist for Kevin, but he has a game plan that he sticks with. Pete Renzulli also says to "plan your work and then flawlessly execute your plan. Take the trades that fit your game plan and fully accept your risk per each and every trade."

I've lost too much money by either changing my plans, or not having a plan at all.

Passion, how do you trade AAPL with it not holding the gap up from Monday? Is 663.25 a support area?

  • Daily Options Strategy Consulting- 1 Full Week Of Training/Trading In San Diego, CA [View instapost]
Kevin, is the Google chat forum available to those who haven't taken the in-person training? Geography and family commitments prevent me from signing up for the consulting. I've been reading your book over and over again, and would like to learn as much as I can within some sort of forum. I'm certain that there will be lots of interest in a subscription-based platform.

Kevin, the book talks about buying calls once the technical indicators hit their low points. Would selling puts work with this strategy?

Kevin, I've read your book (quite impressive, BTW) and I'm trying to learn your technique. For Facebook, the Money Flow Index never went above 80 or below 20. Based on this price action, would you disqualify it for an eligible trade for that day?

  • CF Industries Could Break Out Or Break Down - An Earnings Trade For May 3 [View article]
CF was trading above $200 for parts of the last few days. I don't have an options calculator handy, but I think the trade could have been taken off before earnings for a profit.

This trade idea is a pretty solid 1st down play. One can't expect Hail Marys with a name like CF, but on the other hand it is a clutch performer that will march you down the field.
