  • LDK Solar Lowers Sales Outlook, Delays Factory Plan [View article]
Maybe it will help if they state "LDK expects lower average selling prices for its products and lower wafer shipment THAN PREVIOUSLY GUIDED this year." This is all about painting a rosy picture in November which was unsustainable, and not acknowledging it until the qtr was over, and the market already knew it in November. Everybody knew it except LDK. THAT is why they're getting hammered. Its not over the numbers, its over the lack of visibility into their own business, when the analysts called it 6 weeks ago. Bottom line, you're parsing words here, nothing more. As I said, I am long LDK, but I'm pretty angry that they have been silent until qtr-end and THEN say they will miss by 20%. There's no excuse for that. It will turn around though, their business is strong and they remain highly profitable.

Nuke you make some good points but I think your $50 target is unachievable. I have read your articles on TSRA as well and while you make excellent points on both companies I believe your price targets are much too aggressive. Good article though.

  • Be Careful With Tessera [View article]
Buy high, sell low. Good strategy. "A key patent expires next year" - nice reporting. What patent, what effect, revenue impact, how are licenses structured around this patent? There's nothing here but a stock report and a lame opinion with zero basis. A 9% drop in revenue in the worst economy since the depression. Go figure. Another expert analysis from Seeking Alpha.

ummm... in their Nov earnings release, LDK said they expect wafer shipments in the range of 1.80 GW to 1.85 GW; now they have lowered this to 1.57 GW to 1.67 GW - so yes, they indeed said they expect lower wafer shipments this year. I'm long LDK and expect them to outperform other solars but this isn't bashing, this is just reporting the news. LDK said it, Ucilia Wang reported it. I wish people would stop looking at PR as opinion pieces and start seeing it as the facts. I want good news too, so when there is good news that goes unreported, I'll be fuming with you.

  • Expect Good News from Tessera [View article]
Or there will be no news. Or they could announce a secondary offering that ultimately dilutes shareholder value. No way of knowing anything, since they've done this before without any major news. Sometimes its just for PR.

You make reasonable points but your analysis is completely one-sided and does not consider alternative business strategies. Qualcomm manufactures at Amkor. Or they could manufacture end product overseas and avoid the LEO/CDO entirely. Your article is 2 months old, and a lot changes in two months. ST Micro, Freescale, Spansion, and ATI are ALL wildcards at best.

So the premise of your article is "I think we will get some good news on September 17th?"

  • LDK Solar: When Bad News Is Good [View article]
A positive opinion piece on the solar industry? My my, it must be a new year. How long has it been??? :)

The reduced guidance from LDK was expected since November, when investors slaughtered the stock for painting too rosy of a picture. It finally came home to roost. So once they announced, the news was already baked in. As I said in commenting on another article, the larger problem with LDK is why they don't have the sort of visibility into their business that the street and some analysts have, and why it takes them until the following quarter to realizer and announce it. After all, the miss was substantial, its not as if they were off by a couple of percent and didn't realize it until all the numbers were in.

LDK is an outstanding long term investment and has the potential of a 5-10 bagger once the poly plants are producing. I expect this will be stuck in a range for the next quarter or so, but the long term is what makes this attractive. Especially if the US can get off of its collective arse and get to work!

Thank you Zachary for bringing some attention to this opportunity.

"The company also announced that it experienced a delay in ramping production at its 1,000 MT polysilicon plant due to issues in the final stages of plant commissioning."

Right from their PR. Just parsing words again, but they said it. As a long, I hate to admit it but this was expected by everyone (myself included) except the company itself. I don't think the headline is inflammatory at all, but the stock price took it in stride. Already priced in. I think LDK needed something like this to show that they're a normal company and not the angelic save-all for this global recession. They will only get stronger from here. The headlines can no longer beat down a beaten down stock.

Lets hope they learn a lesson about gaining a little better visibility into their business and coming to terms with the realities a bit sooner next time.

US has only been a few % of their revenues so don't expect some huge bump because of that. It should help increase market share in US but the real story is in china and asia, where the bigger market share and bigger stories are coming from.

  • 5 Stocks to Buy if Obama Wins [View article]
webisking... the govt just bailed out Bear Sterns, took over Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, and now owns 80% of AIG, the worlds largest insurer. If you think Obama is a socialist, well the GOP just socialized things for us.

Oh... wait... thats right, they only socialized the debt. The profits are still privatized.

Nice job Bush, I'd like to have those 8 years of my life back.

If you vote GOP (yet AGAIN!) you deserve exactly what you get. Some people never learn.
