So, if JNK and HYG are good now (companies getting healther), why are your clients in only the low yielding LQD, which is priced at a large premium to NAV?

Swenson said he could not translate what he did at Yale into a strategy for individuals. Since he has no track record except with his investments at Yale, I took what he said for individuals with a grain of salt... it was his "guess" at what would work. He also emphasized "newly issued" TIPS. He said that a couple of times. Obviously, he did not even begin to touch the tax question on these instruments. All-in-all, I got very little from his interview.

I didn't think TIP had paid a dividend since last October. Also, ETFCONNECT lists current yield on SHY as only 1.85% (3/13/09).

  • General Electric: Not Quite a Value Trap, More Like a Value Pit  [View article]
I think the chickens are coming home to roost at GE. Not only has Jeff Hasmelt done a poor job, there is a lot of left over chicken litter from the Jack Wealth days too. You don't build a solid company by continually laying off the bottom third and hiring more. You build a "yes man" company and one focused on making the quarter look good, true or not. Smoke and mirrors has been a focus at GE for a long time.

One concern on PGF is that the banks could be prevented from paying dividends even on preferreds with the government intervention here in the US and in Europe. This happened with Fannie and Freddie preferreds. PGF holds a large % of RBS preferreds. Lloyds is asking for an exemption so it can pay dividends. Does this decision affect only common or will it affect preferreds?
