wow, 6% for the long-term rate is a bit aggressive no? I think it would be more appropriate to use the average inflation of the perpetual growth rate...much more conservative.

  • High Yielding Southern Company Doesn't Excite Me [View article]
SO is one of the best picks within the utility sector, it is hard to see a utility with this kind of financial and dividend strenght. The only utility that might be superior is NEE, however is too expensive and has a substantial lower dividend yield.

IMO, the comments that you made above are correct not only for SO but for all utility stocks, therefore if you want a reliable and crisis-proof utility stock, pick SO.

Investment Standard, thank you for the analysis. Could you just clarify which companies did you include on your industry average? I fear that you have not included similar peers

  • With Recovering Economy, Which Machinery Stocks Should You Buy? [View article]
I would be a bit conservative with a possible investment on DE at this price.

Your argumentation is that the Brazilian market will offset the weak performance in the US. However, IMO, Brazil should not be seen as the same country as 1 or 2 years ago, one good example of that is a revised GDP growth forecast and some dangerous inflation figures. As for the US, you point out a recovering economy, though it is too early to make that afirmation, US is still a bit far from the inflexion point which is one of the fulcral points of the FOMC undecision regarding the QE policity....

Therefore, I would prefer to see DE price a bit lower, between 75-78, so as to have a bigger safety margin.

  • 5 Reasons To Buy Into The McDonald's Story [View article]
Moon, i do not agree with you... and as far is a know your argumentation is based on your own experience, which is an asymmetric view of Mcdonalds...

Now, MCD as a company, is a cash flow machine, is one of the best on its sector, and it has plenty room to grow, such as Africa and an improvement of its biggest market - Europe.

  • Consolidated Ed: Hold Onto This 4.08% Dividend Paying Stock [View article]
you said right when you mention ED as a dividend paying stock - however the dividend growth is residual (almost none), which makes ED a not so very interesting company for a DGI portfolio...

  • Eurozone: Be Ready For The Fall [View article]
Michael nice article. I do have a comment on the European situation - I believe that the major event in the next weeks/ months will be the German elections which will definitely set the new path of the Euro, that is, if we will see more austerity in the future or a sudden change to investment and growth policies across the Eurozone.

In my opinion it would be wiser to wait for the German elections outcome before doing any type of investment.

  • Norfolk Southern: Raising Its Dividend As Coal Revenues Drive Earnings Lower [View article]
I am looking to open a long term position in one rail road company, either NSC or CSX (UNP is too expensive). Regarding NSC and CSX, I am actually more inclined to CSX, for this reasons: i) higher value creation, in terms of capital invested; ii) less leverage; iii) higher dividend increases over the past 5 years; and iv) higher margins.
