Is the Market Going Lower? Silly Question! [View article]
Funny. Canada banking system is more solid than in 1997. Canadian Banks can vulture around and find value in any market and buy it with their ultrafat capital ratios. Canada debt to GDP is rock solid and employment here is still good, especially in the Eastern Canada, where the most socialistic provinces (Québec) are and where 50% of jobs are non cyclical because of this. Canada is indeed not trading at 1997 levels either and this is for a reason.
Jeff Immelt Buys 50,000 GE Shares: Whoop-Dee-Doo [View article]
Immelt is ingenuous. Only buying 400000$ shares at once in one company means he put about 12% of his annual gross wage in this company. He is bright because he did ill-time the market and he probably know, or learned, that whatever low price it is, he can't forecast the bottom and that buy buying only 12% of his wage at a time, he can buy another 12% at another time at a lower price. Do not criticize him for his skill in managing the risk by avoiding market timing impact and dollar cost averaging. He did prove by doing this that he can run GE. I will buy 5% of my wage of GE at 5$.
It's Time for GE to Lose Its Triple-A [View article]
They are profitable, they give that dividend, they make premium products and GE capital is still getting some profit and was downsized. I have no problem buying this company. The rating is meaningless. AAA definition should be for a company who doesn't need debt financing and has no debt, so why would companies be rated AAA since they won't issue debt!
GE will survive the mess and pay its liabilities as expected. Giving it AA or A or BBB will just increase the panic on the market, raise its financing costs so promote job loss since they will reduce work force more than expected and they will survive anyways. It was time to downgrade MBS in 2004-2005-2006-2007 to C or less, now it is no longer time to downgrade viable companies since it will just add to your nation woes.
GE Shareholders Cheered by Dividends, Earnings News [View article]
They should cut that dividend for one year, I would be pleased then to snap up some thousand of shares at half the current price in 2009 as I earn some minimal money by working. I like paranoid speculators acting on next 3 months results and GE dividend cut would reinforce the company on long term, secure subsequent earning power and dividend payments, and allow me to buy all that at half the price or even better price.
