Sun Microsystems: Buy on Regulatory Risk-Driven Stock Weakness [View article]
What do you think now that the EU is balking due to Sun owning MySql? It's already down 10 cents to 9.22. Do you still believe it will fall under $9? And would you still be a buyer then? Or wait longer to see what kind of timeframe this may take?
Buy Zero Coupon Bonds to Hedge Against a Decline in U.S. Economy [View article]
I don't understand - in the US I would expect rates to rise given the inflationary aspects of government spending. Wouldn't zero coupons get annihilated?
I would think you would go the other way. If you think of markets as really world based, then if the dollar is dropping which is boosting the price of oil then US based oil companies would probably stay even at best.
I think the non-US companies involved would see the best appreciation: higher oil prices combined with appreciation in their local currency against the dollar.

Silver and Gold ETFs: How Do You Measure Their Worth? [View article]
I would be interested to see past correlations between gold/silver prices and inflationary pressures.
Currently, the US printing presses are probably wearing out from the large amount of production. I agree, it appears that the US is headed that way.
But, in the past, for example in the Weimar Republic, what happened? Germany was a major player in the international markets (to the extent they existed at the time). Did their hyperinflation affect world-wide gold pricing?

Hi,
I was wondering if there is a log of your 'portfolio' performance somewhere? The area of micro-bio's exploding seems interesting. I just can't tell if there is any logical (repeatable) approach that may work towards an alpha return.
The Federal Reserve Can Not Account for $9 Trillion in Off-Balance Sheet Transactions? [View article]
Pardon my stupidity, but what is an off balance sheet transaction for the Treasury? I understand what that means for a company (e.g. a lease arrangement).
As to the actual conversation, it doesn't appear that the congressman has any cluse what these transactions mean nor does the IG have authority to investigate on such matters.
I agree with the overall tone: Congress (or the public in general) should be able to ask some figurehead at the Treasury exactly what are the transactions involved.
Again, in a public company the footnotes to the quarterly/annual reports would detail what the transactions were and their materiality.
Well the stock has not taken any kind of positive spin on the news. I know the expected suitor is now sitting on the sidelines, but you would think a new CEO and financing would help the stock.

Is he really complaining that retail investors have access to insider trading tools? I am sure as an investment manager he has had access to these types of vehicles for years. If they go away for retail do they go away for the pros as well?
LDK Solar: Astounding Growth & Incredible Value [View article]
Don't you think the sector has been punished by the drop in the price of oil? When people were touting $200 per barrel, all of these stocks skyrocketted. Now that were down about a third to roughly $100, these stocks are down about a third. So, while I agree the numbers look fantastic, I think the price of oil will have a greater bearing on the price of any of these stocks.
