  • Will BlackBerry 10 Save Research In Motion? [View article]
    In what way is BB10 like the iPhone? I don't see the similarity, BB10 has a larger screen there is no home button and it's navigation is all gesture base unlike the iPhone. If anything it's closer to Galaxy.

  • Research In Motion Share Valuation: Buyers Beware [View article]
    You've misinterpreted my comment all I am saying is that there is no guarantee of success whether they are pre-testing the device or not. The author has used past metrics to guage BB10 success and I am saying you can't compare BB7 experience and extrapolate it to BB10.

    Capisce?

  • Research In Motion Share Valuation: Buyers Beware [View article]
    Yes I know but those 120 companies and government offices only represent a small percentage of the market that RIM needs to be successful. RIM's turnaround will be aided by consumers more so than enterprise.

  • 5 Reasons Why $10 Is The Magic Number For Research In Motion [View article]
    You seem to think AAPL's share price is tied to RIM's. I don't the connection, if BB10 is successful sales will come from current BlackBerry subscribers upgrading and Android users moving to BlackBerry, I see few iPhone users moving to BB10 in the near term. Missing the holiday season will have little impact, people's cell contracts expire throughout the year plus having a January launch practically gives RIM 100% market exposure since few other devices are launching in January.

    that's funny but in all seriousness your analysis is based on old news that was produced by an old device which represents RIM's past life, the future is BB10 which is unknown commodity for many especially those who haven't spent the time to research it but to be fair RIM hasn't revealed much as they are keeping all the good stuff for its unveiling on January 30.

    BBM would have to be a cross platform application, rumour of a desktop BBM application has been percolating for sometime if all is true them BBM could be a Skype alternative.

    Chris,
    A few corrections;
    1. Cash used will predominantly be for working capital to build BB10 devices and marketing. RIM is not spending upwards of $1.4 billion in marketing.
    2. The launch date for each device is unknown both virtual and physical keyboard devices will be unveiled on Jan 30, with the virtual keyboard launching shortly after following shortly after with the physical keyboard device, not my words but RIM's.

    That's because employers have locked down the BlackBerry, in my own case I can't use twitter or Facebook because my employer does not allow it but with BlackBerry Balance that constraint is eliminated.

  • RIM: Don't Get Your Hopes Up For Service Revenue [View article]
    i will reiterate once again we do not know what other new services RIM may offer in FY 2014, and don't forget RIM has reduced operating expenses by over $1 billion ($2 ESP) which will have a direct impact on FY 2014 operating earnings.

  • RIM: Don't Get Your Hopes Up For Service Revenue [View article]
    I could be mistaken but I don't recall Thortein Heins saying fee reduction would be significant what I do recall him saying is fees from BBOS users will decline over the next 1.5 - 2 years and RIM will continue to sell BB7 devices and continue to receive fees from those users. He did say they could monetize other assets and services such as BBM but at this point it is all speculation no one knows what RIM will be doing to replace BBOS service fees they could have partnerships lined up but not yet ready to announce it. What we do know is this, these fees will not be disappearing in FY 2014 and we can be reasonably certain that hardware revenue will increase in FY 2014 and I would not be shocked to see hardware revenue back to where it was in 2011 or 2012.
