I am just a guy in my 50s. Pay no attention to my accolades or the lack thereof. Although I am not really interested in getting rich,...that is, I really have no ambition to spend money, I do, however, like to measure my grasp on reality by my (in)ability to beat the market. For a benchmark I simply use VTI and VXUS to determine if my slicing, dicing, tilting, ETF rotations, and stock picking add any value. My portfolio is humble but that is not the point. I live in the middle of nowhere in a desert oasis that is obscured from any traveler’s view by visible heat waves that blur the atmosphere. Hopefully my remoteness improves my objectivity.
Earned a bachelor's degree in physics from the University of Pittsburgh before deciding to switch gears and pursue a career in the financial field. I went on to earn an MBA, also at the University of Pittsburgh.
I worked for nearly three decades in the investment business, including nearly two decades with Charles Schwab & Co. While at Schwab, I worked both as a broker and as a trading supervisor.
While at Schwab, I wrote the daily pre-market opening update for the entire MidAtlantic region. This task was given to me because of my vast knowledge of and years of experience in researching all markets - stocks, bonds, currencies, commodities and international markets.
After leaving Schwab, I became a fulltime investment writer. Currently I write five articles a week for two prominent investment newsletter websites.
Long a buy and hold investor, I now believe that buy and hold has to be re-evaluated in a world of ever increasing, instant information and huge gyrations in markets all over the world.
A value investor at heart, I anchor my portfolio with conservative funds and blue chip dividend stocks, but have enjoyed great returns by utilizing a portion of my portfolio on microcaps, cleantech and new technology stocks.
That change in sentiment resulted in a 471% return over two years.
I am a long term investor, occasional trader who uses a contrarian approach to investing. I've been investing for over ten years and have a Bachelors degree from UCLA. I AM A NUMBER DUMMY!!
A term I use for the general public MIDDLE CLASS. We are the financially uneducated, unexposed to the stock market and financial investments. Most of us don't even know what the fiscal cliff is. One woman thought it was 70 ft. tall! WOW!
I for one, think we should start teaching our kids financial responsibilities in schools, at an early age. How about a REAL education for once.
Why we need classes like home eck is beyond me. Cooking & sewing?? Read the box & microwave it! I for one support a small tax on investment income to support financial education in public schools. Could help save America.
I'm coming to the game late, so I'm quite aggressive towards growth.
My thoughts on the fiscal cliff?? Shove ur scare tactics where the sun don't shine!!
As for investing, I shoot from the hip. I go with my gut. Common sense goes along way. I don't buy hype. EPS what? What ticker is that?
HISTORY; 20 yrs. prototype machinist. 12 yrs. construction labor, management, owner.
Current; Investments & gardening (yes, profitable..gardening that is ;)
I have roughly fifteen years of experience in the financial services and investment industry. My experience has primarily been in trading and wealth management. I am always looking for new opportunities in the market, with a special interest in energy and technology.
New investor with only an undefined fear of the future due to the current Currency Wars. Even a dullard like myself can see something is up and I've decided silver is the best way to go as gold is well beyond my means. Wish me luck, I'm going to need it.
