  • Nokia (NOK) is reportedly hatching plans to sue HTC over the design of its Windows Phone 8X model, announced last week. "Nokia is preparing to get HTC 8X banned in various parts of the world from going on sale when it will launch in November," a source tells The 8X and 8S bear more than a slight resemblance to Nokia's Lumia 920 and 820, and they'll be running the same OS. [View news story]
When I saw those HTC phones I knew this was gonna happen. Those phones are almost identical to the L920.

  • Another day, another example of the pain Samsung, Apple, and Chinese phone vendors are delivering to their rivals. HTC made new 52-week lows in Taipei after guiding for Q3 revenue to slip to $2.34B-$2.67B from Q2's $3.04B, in spite of the smartphone market's growth. Separately, Goldman is downgrading Nokia (NOK +5.3%) to Sell on competitive fears, though shares don't seem affected. (Q2 results).  [View news story]
Looks like the downgrade means nothing now, the stock keeps climbing. It will go a lot higher though when Q3 comes out.

  • Nokia (NOK +6.1%) gives back some of its premarket gains as the Street digests its mixed Q2 data. Nokia's pre-subsidy Lumia ASP fell 15% Q/Q to €186 ($227), as it cuts prices to stoke demand. North American Lumia shipments only totaled 600K, in spite of AT&T's promotions. MKM remains bearish, asserting Nokia's €4.2B in net cash could be gone in 2 years. Q4/Q1 could be make-or-break time for Nokia, as it rolls out Windows Phone 8 models featuring its PureView camera tech.  [View news story]
Next quarter will be on the positive side since there will be no dividend payouts. I think they did pretty good in the last quarter, considering that they are still in the middle of their restructuring

7 years ahead of Apple, they had it all and they didn't act.

    Excellent interview with Elop:

  • Nokia: Lumia Price Cut Not The Solution To Lagging Sales [View article]
That's a great deal for a phone like that, people hung up on the no windows 8 upgrade for no reason at all. I've been tracking customer reviews for a while and Lumia 900 wins big time. Check out amazon for example, almost 500 reviews still 4.5 stars. Now check iPhone 4s, 64 reviews 3.5 stars, hmmm. iPhone 5 didn't come out yet but already obsolete, compare to the pureview technology and that's a fact!

  • How Bad Can Nokia's Earnings Be? [View article]
I am reading more and more good news about the purview 808. Even though it's symbian, people like the fact, that they only have to carry a phone and take care of, recording amazing quality video, taking astounding pictures and of course an excellent gps(nokia drive). Basically, you can retire your camcorder, dslr, gps and have a very decent phone. Pureview beats the competition by miles!!!
Don't count out Nokia just yet!

  • Bernstein's Pierre Ferragu is more bearish than ever on Nokia (NOK -1.9%), slashing his PT to $1.56 from $2.63 and forecasting a $0.38/share loss for 2012. He thinks more disappointing news could accompany Nokia's Q2 report, due Thursday, and that feature phone demand is evaporating as Android phones get cheaper. As for Windows Phone? Ferragu asserts it has "insignificant traction," and that there's no room for a "third ecosystem." (yesterday)  [View news story]
They sold a lot more lumias than 330k for sure. Last quarter they sold 600k in north America not including the Lumia 900. I guess it will only be a few more days until we know for certain.

  • Though Windows Phone (MSFT) has gained a small following in China, local phone vendors such as ZTE and Huawei are reportedly cool to offering domestic models. With Android phones selling for CNY1,000 ($157) or less, local vendors see the higher cost of Windows Phone hardware as a deterrent. The concerns drive home the challenges Nokia (NOK) faces in competing with low-end Android hardware in developing nations, as Symbian and feature phone sales plummet.  [View news story]
Asha 303 is cheaper than competition ($141) only.

  • Nokia (NOK +1.7%) chairman Risto Siilasmaa says his company has a "contingency plan" if sales of Windows Phone 8 hardware disappoint. Siilasmaa doesn't elaborate, though many think he's talking about Android. The remarks come as top Finnish carrier Elisa claims Windows Phone devices (i.e. Nokia's Lumia line) made up 1/3 of June phone sales. Some hometown favoritism must have helped, but this still marks a reversal from recent trends. (previous)  [View news story]
I don't think windows 8 will disappoint since with w8, pureview will come along and the reviews are very encouraging. It will be a few years, before any other company could develop something even close to that.

  • Microsoft May Have Just Hurt Lumia 900 Sales [View article]
They sold 2 million Lumia's but that is not including the 800c in China, Lumia 900 and the 610 just launching. My estimate is over 5 million sold and that is gonna be double the next quarter.
