  • Insider Buying Bodes Well For Orexigen  [View article]
Hello. This thread caught my eye. Your article was interesting. I went back a few articles by you. I agree that because of price point and formulation as well as 2 drugs involved that Contrave will be rxed instead of the generics. The 2 drugs MOA is intriguing and in theory should work in this patient population. The fact that it may be proven to help with metabolic syndrome will get it on formularies and accepted by docs if the data is robust in terms of wt loss. It also occurred to me that this could be a "chronic" drug. The 2 phase 3's look adequately populated.
When will they publish? If positive results with 2 known drugs roughly how long to FDA approval? Any info appreciated. Thanks.
Disclosure: no position in OREX yet.

  • Spectrum Pharma: Zevalin Sales Ramp Up [View article]
    Are these cumulative sales results?
    Q1 2009= 34 patients/mo.
    Q2 2009= 44 patients/mo.
    Q3 2009= 62 patients/mo.
    Q4 2009= your figures 320patients/mo.
    Q2 2010= 1000 patients/mo.
However, incidence of non-indolent NHL (DLBCL) will be roughly 33,000 in 2009. Approx 88% will have Complete Response to R-CHOP.
That means potentially 3900 patients in the US/year might benefit from Zevalin in relapsed/ refractory state of which 30% won't have bone marrow reserve to be eligible. That leaves 2700 patients/ year who I have to assume are insured are healthy enough and have the resources to travel to and stay in a major metro area/ teaching institution to have the Zevalin administered and then have local oncology support when their counts bottom.
You should identify that numerator by Q2 or sooner assuming there's anyone left to administer it.
    Leave the light on.

JB. not sure of the science for HPV vaccine. Multikine in a pt who already has H/N cancer. Elvis has left the stadium. Are they exrapolating from Gadasil? You're right Erbitux shows some efficacy. little toxicity.
I thoroughly enjoy the shameless pumping on these sites of stocks with no future...Onsolis BDSI will replace Actiq, the fentanyl lollipop, which is also never prescribed except with Onsolis you get to do it with triplicates through a closed supply chain. oh and the narcotized
patient has to know the passcode when the courier arrives? I couldn't make this stuff up.....
I just wish I could make money off this sci-fi.

  • Spectrum Pharma: Zevalin Has Blockbuster Potential [View article]
    zevalin.com prescribing info section 6.1 p.7 roughly
5% of pts in initial trial of relapsed NHL developed acute myelogenous leukemia/myelodysplastic syndrome at a median 2.9 years.
to kind of understand side effects of radiation- google medical s/s of nuclear attack and read about bone marrow/gi/cns death esp. bone marrow.
I'm a huge fan of pitchblende products but to analyze a product/company, I think it helps to understand the science. unless you're just daytrading a ticker symbol. which is ok ,too.

Justin, I wasn't being obtuse but if you're someone who invests in new drugs emphasis cancer I would think it would be helpful to have some understanding of the science. I actually do have experience with Zevalin which is just rit tagged to y-90. apropos of nothing, sumarium and strontium are also a pain in the a** to administer. All result in profound pancytopenia lasting about 3mo even in carefully selected patients. Now you're looking at an elderly pt pop that is heavily pretreated. What is it you don't get. Go to zevalin.com and look at the insert. Go to NCCN and look at the guidelines for NHL partic DLBCL.
You mentioned reimbursement of 24,000 w/o CMS changes. Have you looked at a newspaper lately? Do you know the rate at which most insurers kick this out?
Why are are you getting advice from a 70 yo onc on a RIT?
However I do recognize my limitations as an investor.
    How do I "short" a stock? : )

reitinvestor, that is a limitation. As a practicing oncologist, I could give you at least 10 scenarios why most patients with follicular and NHL in general would not meet criteria or benefit from Zev, suffice it to say it was FDA approved Feb 2002 and went exactly nowhere. There are existing comparable tx.s with infrastructure in place that are readily reimbursed without the bone marrow toxicity.

If you have a day job, want someone else to do heavy lifting. Want to avoid dividends for tax implication. Want a stock that's tough to short at 3K/100K respectively, BRKa/BRKb is a very reasonable option.

What happened to BRKA friday with close at 147, then open Monday at +/- 133? Any thoughts appreciated. Also, I had the misunderstanding that BRK got cheaper after Warren buys "stuff". When does the sale start ? Does Wrigley, Constellation and GS not constitute a spree?
