Another outtake of the recent ultracapacitor article. Let's hope they keep them coming.

Will Ultracapacitors Save Start-Stop Systems From Consumer Wrath?

"Worse, some early data appears to show that the beefier lead-acid starter batteries that enable the system to restart the engine dozens of times a day may need to be replaced more frequently.

That has led some analysts and electronics companies to suggest that start-stop systems will soon include not only the advanced-glass mat (AGM) batteries but also a small ultracapacitor to ease the power draw on those batteries."

Edit: And err really. I thought energy density was everything.

"Peugeot is able to reduce the capacity of the car's battery by 30 percent by adding the small ultracapacitor, according to supplier Continental."

Don't forget about seismic requirements. Can't treat them as individual containers if you start stacking. This being said I'm sure if footprint were the only reason for PbC not winning an opportunity there are cost effective solutions.

    East Penn oops.

$5.5 Million Settlement in False Claims Act Case Filed by Minnesota Whistleblower

"The United States has settled a case filed by Minnesota whistleblower David McIntosh alleging fraud by his employer M.K. Battery, Inc., East Penn Manufacturing Co., Inc. and other corporations involved in the manufacture of gun turrets installed on combat vehicles in Iraq. The defendants in this False Claims Act case have agreed to pay $5.5 million to the United States. This resolves a claim that the defendants substituted a battery for use in Humvee gun turrets that had lesser capacities than the batteries the Army believed it was buying.

“I believe strongly that the lives of American servicemen and women were put at risk by the switch in batteries. It is a relief to finally resolve this issue and know that the substitute batteries are no longer being used.”

"These batteries by PowerGenix have already become a common place in cars branded by Peugeot and Hella,..."

Unless I've missed something major it is my belief that the relationship in these two cases has not progressed beyond the evaluation phase. Finding one's way into servicing original equipment for automotive is a long long process.

Here is the web page for Electriplast. Very interesting tech. Hadn't thought of shielding. Why were it not for style this might have HTL, Stilldazed and a few others here wearing high tech. fedoras!

I could see this as light weighting for battery grids or perhaps shielding for the battery cases in 48 VDC systems to control EMI if necessary.

Spy photos of the 4th generation Kia Optima test mule. This is the program that has the yet to be approved for production T-Hybrid variant that is initially targeting a 48 VDC advanced lead acid battery. Currently the battery is being developed by the European ALABC and has been IDed in this forum as an Ultrabattery.

Maxim, here to help. Real upstanding guys.

I know, I know HTL. No way to know. However after their last financing round for Axion I find it hard to think for one minute that these guys don't have a stable full of flea covered dogs.

Maya, It was widely discussed here. Axion, in a effort to keep its wide stockholder base, was going to take all odd lots post split up to 100 shares vs buying out the same. Some here did what you have done intentionally to take advantage of this effort.

Axion has obligations. They have lease payments, salaries, Bob A. payment and other operational costs. They can't just shut down or any opportunities they have on the burners will go cold.

Can't cancel. TG waited until the last minute again with what appears to be one viable option. DDG will proceed as he must.
