Middle Kingdom Malaise? China's Latest GDP Figures

I recently spent 3 months in the Beijing where hundreds of partially finished 30 storey apartment buildings were totally abandonned for 9 months of 2008. They are part of some 4,000 construction sites that were shut down prior to the olympics. I suspect that most of the projects will not be re-started until the spring of 2009. I hope that someone could comment on the effect of such an over-built situation.
