  • The Disaster Scenario For Treasury Bonds [View article]
I think Yellen is correct in her interpretation of the situation; there is still way too much slack in the economy for an end to QE. Furthermore, deficit fighting in DC will reduce bonds' issues. Less supply brings prices up (yields down). And I don't think that the appetite for US assets from foreign investors will vanish.

  • Ben, Can I Speak With Your Mommy? [View article]
"But you can see that from 2003 to 2005 or so, Housing Starts continued to rise while interest rates were also rising." I read this more and more often as an argument "proving" that higher IRs will not impact RE. However, one must not forget that a lot of volume in RE during this period was due to the possibility to sign up for loans with no amortization and capitalization of due interest and no down payment. When you have nothing to pay, your feeling for value tends to disappear.

  • Why Freddie And Fannie Failed [View article]
Homeownership and societal good is a pleonasm. You can't own something that "belongs" to the society. That's why fire departments are not (yet) privately owned. Furthermore, I would never put my hard earned savings into something that doesn't belong to me.
