  • American Express Buying Out Cardholders: Bad for the Economy? [View article]
When I first read this yesterday, I honestly thought it was a joke. I suppose AmEx is pretty pricey and makes a good chunk more from its transaction fees than some other companies, but acutally paying people to leave and forgoing the interest spreads entirely? That's a new kind of game.

I would think they'd want to encourage new business, not make people wonder if they'll get the axe. Maybe the people they're targeting 'deserve' to get the axe anyway, but this kind of thing can give a company a reputation they don't want.

    Cheers,

  • Lining Up on Both Sides of Auto Bailout [View article]
... not sure what happened to that comment, but minus the hyphens (which apparently confused the posting system), it was meant to say, "absolute worst case roll over and die (like an SUV) scenario."

Will it be painful? Yes, certainly. I sincerely doubt it will toss 100% of everyone onto the street with nothing, though.

  • Lining Up on Both Sides of Auto Bailout [View article]
... so what is YOUR opinion, Paul? Would you spend even more billions we don't have to bail these companies out? Or would you let them falter during the worst economic downturn since the depression, as most folks are calling it?

This all despite the fact that nobody seems to want to admit the following: If GM really does falter, they are not going to just fall into a black hole and vanish. SOMEONE will come along and buy factories, patents, concepts, etc. If they go into Chapter 11 instead of Chapter 7, then it will result in a lot less loss than everyone is predicting, which is almost always absolute-worst-case roll-over-and-die(-lik... scenario.

Honestly, this situation is not black and white, no matter how you look at it.

  • Copart Rated a Sell [View article]
What a misleading title. You're basically saying that your "Sell" rating on CoPart is due to "bad market conditions" and "poor short-term stock price performance relative to my purchase price?" You even flat-out say there is nothing wrong with the company.

Please title your articles appropriately. For anyone but a profit-taker or loss-stopper, this article should be titled something like, "CoPart stock price succumbs to general market weakness."
