  • Cash Position Best for Apple Investor [View article]
In my not so humble opinion, the way to play AAPL on the long side is to sell puts. The implied volatility on out of the money puts is outrageous. Look at the October 70's - selling for a buck and change. More than likely they'll expire worthless, and in the alternative getting long AAPL at $69 sounds good assuming Steve Jobs doesn't drop dead anytime soon.

  • 3 Stocks That Are Begging To Be Bought [View article]
Have you thought at all about what the strong dollar does for the overseas earning of companies like Google?

  • Dell Looks Cheap [View article]
Ummm, when has Dell NOT been cheap in the past few years. Even when the PC market was absolutely booming last year, Dell was reporting one lousy quarter after another.

And now that the economy's slowing, we're supposed to get interested in this stock. I'm sorry, your easy-to-manipulate-to-... DCF model is absolutely useless.

  • Buffett Buys GE, Goldman: Should You Follow? [View article]
Buy financials (and YES, GE is a financial) because Warren is buying them? No way. Buffett got sweetheart deals that nobody else can access. And besides, what he does with billions and billions of dollars has zero bearing on what the average investor should do with his portfolio. After all, we are far more liquid and can be far more flexible.

  • Attractive Values - Fast Money Recap (10/7/08) [View article]
I love that these guests are telling us that the market is wrong about stocks. Whether the market is right or wrong, those who are long have been getting wrecked. The advice of these long-only managers is completely useless because they are constrained by their mandates.

  • Big Troubles for the Euro [View article]
I tend to be critical of most of the financial commentary I find out there, but Merkel is worth his weight in gold. I'm curious as to how the cyclicals' earnings will come out given the positive movement of EUR/USD during Q3. Weak dollar used to boost earnings but that won't be the case much longer, and not many analysts have cut estimates due to f/x changes. Personally, I'm short an auto supplier with huge EU business.

  • 25 Cash Cows to Ride Out the Storm- Barron's  [View article]
Lame. A lot of these names (HPQ, MSFT, KO etc.) are going to get absolutely destroyed by the stronger dollar during Q3. I don't know why any rational human being would want to own these stocks this earning season.

  • When Hedgies Attack: Morgan Stanley Drops 40% on Rumors [View article]
Given all the crazy stuff we've seen in financials this year, I can't believe people are still attacking short sellers. Christ, when companies are regularly taking multi-billion losses, their stocks are bound to go down! THESE STOCKS ARE DECLINING ON THE TRUTH, NOT RUMORS!!!

  • Surviving the Financial Nuclear Winter [View article]
It's been pretty obvious all year that being heavily in cash was a wise thing to do. WTF would anyone want to keep buying when the financial sector was in freefall?

CNBC is a major problem - too many long-only managers who have to stay in the market talking their declining books. I love being an individual investor, not having to play that stupid game.

  • Time to Hoard Cash - Cramer's Mad Money (10/6/08) [View article]
This is insane - if you read his newsletter Mr. Cramer has been giving buy recommendations EVERY SINGLE DAY. And he comes out after all that and says we need to be conservative.

And along with CNBC, he's apparently completely forgotten his July 15 botttom call.

I simply don't understand why anyone would listen to these guys that have been long and wrong all the way down. Anyone remember Pzena telling everyone that FRE and FNM were great buys?

  • Cramer: Dow Could Drop Another 14%, Oil's Going to $50 [View article]
We can be pretty sure we're at a bottom if Cramer is telling us there is that much downside risk. If you follow his newsletter, he's been buying ALL the way down. He is such a permabull and it makes him a great contrarian indicator.
