BOSTON (MarketWatch) -- A recent change to an obscure tax rule for banks could spur more deals in the pressured sector and help potential acquisition targets, Wall Street analysts say.
The Internal Revenue Service last week unveiled a modification that could drive bank mergers because it lets buyers realize significant tax benefits on bad loans.
Banks that could profit from the new rule include Wachovia and National City Corp., among other acquisition targets in regional banks, according to Deutsche Bank.
