From 1992 to 1998 Carl was a director of Sovereign Trust International, Hong Kong and South Africa. He consulted on international tax planning, offshore company and trust establishment. He then spent three years heading the Cape Town wealth management offering of Rand Merchant Bank Private Bank where he advised high net worth individual clients on domestic and international investment and financial planning. In 2004 he established Clade Investment Management, a privately-owned asset management company which he ran until 2007. As CEO of Clade, he created the first Financial Services Board-approved hedge fund index published on The Bond Exchange of South Africa and was a member of the team which designed the SA Government Bond, Exchange Traded Fund and Equity Index Fund. In 2008 he formed Dunvegan Wealth Management focussing on wealth management and private equity funds management.

Carl has appeared on CNBC and Summit TV to report on hedge funds globally and in SA. Has written articles for press and appeared as a guest on various radio programmes. Carl has also presented at conferences and workshops on hedge funds, asset allocation and ETF’s.
