  • Amazon: A Kindle Under Every Tree? [View article]
why would anyone buy the Kindle for that price when they can get an iTouch that does the same thing and about a zillion other things? And the reading experience is terrific on it. audiobooks are wonderful too.
i think this article must be an ad or something.

  • AT&T Launches Verizon Counter-Punch Ad [View article]
tethering isn't necessary on the iPhone to talk and search at the same time...i do it every day. I wanted the iPhone and switched from Verizon and everything works great. The first few months when the iPhone initially came out, there were some dropped calls. Doesn't happen now.
If you compare ads, obviously the best ads on the planet are made by Apple...along with some of the best products. Most people don't buy a smartphone just because they want a phone. It's because they want all the other stuff... and Apple makes THAT product.

  • Can Apple Stop the Android? [View article]
bottom line: in tech, the prize goes to the best AND fastest innovator, within a financially stable company.
you cannot compare early Apple with anything. it was poorly managed and financially unstable. Jobs learned a lot after having to sell enough code to Microsoft so they could TRY and develop a great OS.
Apple is very strong financially and they know how to compete. I question anyone who stayed with Windows all these years and this article is obviously written from that direction. Though it warms the heart of this investor to see that the author's purchase hurt Microsoft, not Apple, since he didn't have an iPhone to start with!
The companies in trouble are 'everyone but Apple'.

  • Why Krugman Is Wrong About the Yuan [View article]
Retailers in the U.S. have already advertised prices for goods through the holidays, so I don't see that impacted.

However, I do agree that we must pay down the debt. That is the major problem. Until we do that, everything else is just first aid.

  • The William O'Neil Strategy: A Quest for Upside Surprise [View article]
in tech, surprise is always possible, no matter how many surprises a company has already produced...i.e. Apple. This is a company perfectly capable of leading the innovative pack for decades. It's not a case of 'everything that can be invented, has been'.
There are other players and it'll be interesting to see what they can do. But notice that the only supposedly 'killer' products hyped, were ALL Apple. No one bothers to hype a Zune or Vista killer. This makes it obvious that Apple is the leader. And they deserve the spot...they're terrific at everything.

  • Apple's Tablet: Consumers Will Buy, But What About Businesses? [View article]
there is a plus to the Apple OS...harder to hack and less vulnerable to viruses so some businesses have switched over to them because it means they don't need such a big IT department (big expense). In areas where Apple has stores, tech support is unmatched by anyone else. Even it's phone tech support is excellent. And it's free.

people are personally owning more and more complicated tech devices and developing strong preferences. they are not being quiet about what they want to use at work. i see a steady exodus to Apple in a lot of work environments. That doesn't mean a takeover by Apple...but a bigger market share all around, for sure.

as a stock, this is a company that will be here in 2020 and it knows what it's doing. all those kids using an iPod are going to consider other Apple products. It's a good value company.

  • It's a Large World After All [View article]
i read that wifi will be enabled on the iPhone in the future for China. but you're right. when it comes to China we have to remember that they can buy their iPhone unlocked and they do and those numbers count, since they did actually buy it.

  • The Power of Instant Approval [View article]
i want Apple to review the apps before i end up putting an app on my iPhone that is harmful or negative to the experience of using the iPhone. and if takes a few weeks for an update, big deal. at least when it's done, it isn't a 'Vista experience'.

  • If Android's Going to Compete It Needs a Real App Store [View article]
i had wondered if i was the only person who enjoyed roaming the app store on my iPhone just as entertainment in itself. Guess not:) I don't see how anyone will really catch up. i'm certainly not about to give up my iPhone with it's 100,000 and growing app selection.

  • Apple Opens New Retail Store in New York City [View article]
still the most profitable retail space in the country, by far. that store is spectacular and Apple keeps garnering market share. This is the best tech stock out there. Apple is so cash rich but also so R&D oriented, that they will be around and leading for a long time.

  • Apple to Open 50 More Stores - Let's Be Careful, Steve [View article]
bottom line: Apple moves into demand and they don't go into debt to do it. the reason chains get into trouble is because they don't have the cash reserves to survive a mistake.
if Microsoft didn't has so much loot, do you think it would have survived Vista?
Steve Jobs never again wants to be in a '3 days to bankruptcy' situation and he's built a company that's as financially strong as possible. The stores are just spectacular and if you think all those young people in them taking those courses and playing with the toys are going to go home and order a Dell or a Zune, think again.

We all know the usual shopping experience... staff that's bored, distracted, often impolite and ignorant about the products they are supposed to be selling. Then there's the Apple store experience! Much of the staff is young...they're smart and pretty easy to train if you do it right. And Apple does it right. Anyone shopping at the King of Prussia Mall knows the difference between how it feels in most of the other stores and how it is to be in the Apple store. It's just exciting and a very positive experience.

The stores increase Apple's market share in everything they sell. There is still a huge demand all over the country and certainly all over the world. They need that physical presence...it's the draw to the products which feel and deliver like nothing else.

I know the worry about the economy...but Apple won't move ahead of it's cash reserve... and they need to be ready for the next set of products that will up the ante once again.

  • Will Mobile App Pricing Fall to Zero? [View article]
no one who can afford a smartphone (and plan) thinks anything of spending 99 cents for an app. why should they all be free when people are willing to pay something for them? the free apps are mainly to drive business to something else or in the public domain anyway (like classic books) or to start an app developers reputation.

100,000 apps on the iPhone make it a part of you because the apps cover every information source possible, almost any media you want, including books and videos, most major games, music, directions, web surfing and constant connection to your family and friends via a zillion ways. no one with an iPhone bought it because they just wanted a phone.

so those with the iPhone and apps already installed aren't going to hesitate to download more...they don't need to be free. and free often isn't anyway if you don't like ads.

i do agree that software products are cheaper now, but then so are computers. our first computer was $3500, in 1983...and had NO internal hard drive. production volume does count. but virus protection for a PC is still expensive and iffy. It's always been interesting to me that a company can get away with selling a computer with an OS that is so hackable a 10 year old can break in and then expect the buyer to constantly pay to protect it.

Microsoft was cost industry every bit of profit it (Microsoft) has made in the form of lost employee time, huge IT departments, lost data and stolen hard drive info. I always laugh when i see articles that say Macs are expensive. They might cost a bit more to buy..but they sure don't cost more to keep.

I think Apple knew what it was doing with the iTunes store and then the App Store and they know how to run a profitable business. We'll keep seeing 99 cent apps.

  • Why Research in Motion Is a Takeover Target [View article]
i do think Rim will be around and maybe even figure out how to stay alive in the next 10 years. But even if it does, Apple will most likely be more profitable and more likely to 'live long and prosper', just because it's a tech company. With tech, there's one 'do or die'... you MUST innovate faster and better than the competition.

Microsoft, after it's underwhelming Zune experience, might look to Rim, but it's hard to believe that would help Microsoft in the long run. But Gates has made other decisions i didn't understand, so....

As to the guy with the iPhone that supposedly had a virus on it when he bought it... dude... go to an Apple store and make an appointment at the genius bar and get an informed diagnosis! The salesperson at Best Buy isn't qualified to tell you anything and he's use to PCs so he will always blame a 'virus'. Any Apple store that can't get your iPhone to work properly will give you a new iPhone that will! It's not like all Apple products arrive in perfect condition, though most do... but Apple does act responsibly and they are top rated for customer experience because they actually do care about their customers.
By the way, if i read your comment right, you'd go back if it switched to Verizon? Then where was the so called virus? You do know that the iPhone has Safari...system 10 (x) no viruses! Really...phone stores are notorious for not knowing anything about iPhones...yes, it's not great... but you have a warranty from Apple on your iPhone...call the 800 number and then send it back to Apple if you don't have an Apple store near you. They'll fix it or replace it...really.

  • Amazon-Sized Craziness [View article]
when you invest in technology, the moat better have sharks in it because it's like investing in nothing else. i have APPL because i think it has the best moat. It's not enough to have loads of cash, a good reputation, great products and great marketing, if you can't innovate better and faster than the competition.

The reason Jobs won Fortune's Best CEO of the Decade is because for the past 10 years he has seen the future. Partly it's because he's helped create it, but he also 'gets' where technology is going and has the savvy necessary to hire worthy staff and direct them toward profitable and amazing products.

I read books on my iPhone all the time, as well as playing games (oh, and i also make a phone call now and then). When i compared the Kindle book reader with my experience of reading on the iPhone, i laughed. Even though the iPhone wasn't created as a dedicated bookreader, it's wonderful and has a much nicer user interface. I'm sure Apple will take over that market in the near future.

Amazon is a great company and i shop on it a lot (there's an app for that). I just don't know if they can compete with technology products in the long run. There's no 'safe' investment in anything. But if you love tech, Apple is the 'most likely to succeed' and still be with us in 2020, even if it loses Jobs.
