when you invest in technology, the moat better have sharks in it because it's like investing in nothing else. i have APPL because i think it has the best moat. It's not enough to have loads of cash, a good reputation, great products and great marketing, if you can't innovate better and faster than the competition.
The reason Jobs won Fortune's Best CEO of the Decade is because for the past 10 years he has seen the future. Partly it's because he's helped create it, but he also 'gets' where technology is going and has the savvy necessary to hire worthy staff and direct them toward profitable and amazing products.
I read books on my iPhone all the time, as well as playing games (oh, and i also make a phone call now and then). When i compared the Kindle book reader with my experience of reading on the iPhone, i laughed. Even though the iPhone wasn't created as a dedicated bookreader, it's wonderful and has a much nicer user interface. I'm sure Apple will take over that market in the near future.
Amazon is a great company and i shop on it a lot (there's an app for that). I just don't know if they can compete with technology products in the long run. There's no 'safe' investment in anything. But if you love tech, Apple is the 'most likely to succeed' and still be with us in 2020, even if it loses Jobs.

while the tech expos are always enjoyable, having to time your product line to the date of one is not. january... what a dumb idea. but at this point, Apple doesn't need that kind of format anymore even if the date was better. One nice thing..we got to see more of the other stars at Apple and that was good. It's time people realize that Apple is huge and LOTS of talent.

Gibson guitar? That was a shock. But i wonder about some of the others and how the rate of pay figures into what employees say about the company. I know Apple pays better than a lot of other places and certainly Wal-Mart and Radio Shack pay less. Phone stores are hard places to work...you have to deal with a lot of very frustrated customers. Still, in this climate, being a great place to work doesn't seem to influence stock prices, unfortunately!

i think we'll see people rationalizing about buying presents this holiday season and that will let them continue to buy the tech toys. but there's another factor... in scary times, people need to feel like they're in touch with loved ones. we'll see more smartphone purchases than one would expect in bad economic times. Apple will do especially well in their retail space, compared to almost anyone else. i keep an eye on the king of prussia store, in PA, and that continues to do a robust business. if you're in there awhile, it's just amazing to realize how many 'newbies' come through the door...and then walk out with a product...often the 'enticer', an ipod shuffle or nano...but only after drooling over an iphone or Mac. Those stores offer such a high level of emotional and intellectual satisfaction and support...if other hi-tech places did this, they woudln't be in chapter 11....circuit city could use a few lessons.

the intense rivalry has a lot of old history of david vs goliath. apple (david) and microsoft, mainly. apple nearly folded and to survive sold code to microsoft. that code is now known as windows, word, etc... but of course microsoft has never really known how to use it.
people who appreciated Mac OS are just very relieved to be part of a great company that is FINALLY not just the one with top rated products, but one that is also financially secure and gaining global market share for all it's products. please allow us to bask. we've earned it.
that said, we could all do without the name calling. it is possible to be respectful and disagree. let's keep apple's good reputation by acting like the good guys and not alienating possible future customers. thanks. disclosure...long APPL

the size is a limitation for all of the developers but the iphone has apps developers working overtime and no one else does. soon, most things will be formatted to be played on an iphone. eventually the screen will be a 'holocast' and projected in front of the device. at that point we'll have a very real portable computer. until then, the iphone blows everyone else out of the water, and is, as Bubley says, the 'best effort'... but it's not only the best effort...it's far above the others. i love Apple products and own the stock, but i do think it would be more beneficial to Apple if those of us who know the products well, would just patiently explain why they are top rated and better, comparatively. PC magazine already says the new iPods are top rated and make the other players look clunky.

unlike Dell... Apple knows how to treat it's customers with top rated customer tech support. this article is clearly written by someone who knows nothing about computers, or mp3 players or anything tech. do you know why IT people resist Macs? because they need less IT support! why?... they work better. but companies are starting to realize that the bottom line is better if they don't have to pay so many IT people so many billable hours. the switch is happening. Vista helped a lot... it's the worst operating system in history. Thanks, Bill!
