Diane, you and your colleagues overlook the greatest asset in Yahoo's bag and you fail even to mention it here - the brand. Users do not percieve the Yahoo brand, the company, or the products and services, in the same way as you analysts. Measure Google, or Microsoft, or even Apple for that matter, on brand metrics against Yahoo and Yahoo can stand tall next to any of them. Yahoo users are brand loyal and the new CEO needs to be someone that recognises this and builds on it.
At this rate Yahoo can use its cash pile to buy back its own shares, go private and get out of the analysts glare. Maybe then they can concentrate on the internet and their users without having to worry about the money men raking through things they dont understand and trying to put a value on it.

Yahoo suffer from very poor PR and weak management, the person best qualified to sort this sort of mess out and leverage a benefit for both shareholders and users is Richard Branson. He may be a bloody clown but he knows how to take on the big boys in games he doesn't fully understand and break their iron grip. Monopolistic tendancies are something he is good at combating. Yes it's a good question, would the Yahoo brand be able to live under the Virgin label?

It's when the Yahoo users start fleeing the sinking ship that Yahoo will encounter their real problems, will Yang take responsible action then and leave or still live in the denial zone?
Why are Yahoo so adept at getting their PR wrong, how many times have Virgin taken on boys much bigger than themselves in fields they know nothing about and left them looking like puny wrinkles? Richard Branson please borrow some money, buy Yahoo, and sort this sorry mess out before the internet is reduced to a choice of 1 in search.
