  • Buffett thanks Moynihan for $5B profit [View news story]
    You guys are all incorrect.

The "Oracle" is from the Matrix, Oracle CEO is irrelevant and the Oracle of Omaha is flat out a genius that no one can touch.

Apparently WB doesn't have a computer or calculator in his office and can embarass people with earnings figures (that he remembers) from years ago. If you're going into a deal with WB, you'lll have to figure out how you're gonna get screwed because you will. But it's great when he's on your side running his business while you are a part-owner of his shrewdness.

Tim - Actually, I've been waiting for you to recommend AFLAC because it's been on my radar for awhile but always wondered why you never mentioned it haha. Now, I'm wondering when you'll recommend YUM. I think this is also a value investor's dream but albeit a bit pricey

  • Pricing A Highly Probable Takeover Of MannKind [View article]
I think it's too late to buy in. The takeover is also priced in. It's like when bankers provide a price target after the stock has already hit that target. Doesn't mean much.

  • The collapse of Yum Brands' (YUM) market share in China isn't solely tied to the avian bird flu crisis, according to industry analysts. The KFC chain hasn't adapted its menu to consumer tastes in China successfully or tapped into "aspiration" diners. [View news story]
The KFC chain hasn't adapted its menu to consumer tastes in China successfully or tapped into "aspiration" diners?

Who is the idiot that wrote this? Of course they did. Better than any other multinational.

  • Bet On Peltz, Pepsi And Mondelez? [View article]
If Pepsi sells its Frito-lay to Mondelez, then management at Pepsi are beyond stupid. Frito-lay is the only reason why Pepsi is valuable. If anything, Pepsi would take out Mondelez or merge.

  • Silver: Do You Think It Is Breaking Out? [View article]
I'm sick of these "silver articles." I was a silver bug a few years ago when it went from 15-35ish. And every month, there is an article or pundit saying that silver "is going to break out" with some loose timetable and it never happened. In the end, silver prices are unpredictable, equities are. Stick with earnings in equities. That's why I think Buffett is a genius and I"m glad that he didn't purchase silver/gold. Yeah he would've made a killing but who cares since he's not interested in "fast money."

  • Maybe less entertaining than Byron Wien, but almost surely more actionable is this list of predictions for 2013 from Ploutos. Among the ideas is outperformance by DELL and HPQ thanks to activist investors taking major stakes. A big purchase by Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.B) is being talked about, and Ploutos guesses it will be Cummins (CMI). Will JNJ give up its AAA rating to lever up and return cash to shareholders? [View news story]
if a stock is being noted from being picked by WB. most likely, it will NOT be picked by WB. at least that's what I"ve noted in the past 15 years of investing. WB usually surprises everyone.

  • Yum Brands (YUM) can breathe a little easier after hearing China's government report chicken samples from the company's KFC division complied with government standards. A regulatory agency noted 32 samples passed tests on levels of antibiotics and steroids after the issue of contamination cropped up last week. With 44% of its revenue derived from China, Yum Brands knows full well it's important to protect its brand image in the nation. [View news story]
It is of no surprise that there will be high levels of "foreign substances" in the chickens. Looking at the rate of YUM's growth in china, you'll have to use some form of "foreign substance" to sustain that type of growth. Whether it's harmful for people or not...not sure. Then again, it is fried chicken.
