BCE Takeover: An Opportunity for Opportunism at Teachers? [View article]
For some time I have been wondering why the Teachers group would not be buying all the shares they could at the depressed prices relative to the "purchase" price of $42.75, unless there was some stipulation in the Agreement that prevented them from doing so. I have also been wondering if this is the reason that the deal is taking so long to close.
As a shareholder of BCE I voted to sell at the $42.75 price, but my decsion would not have been the same if the possibility of the dividend being "suspended" had been part of the Agreement.
I believe that given the long established history of BCE's dividend payment, and the fact that they have the funds to continue the payment, BCE may have to judicially defend their decision down the road. I think all BCE shareholders should be expressing their disapproval regarding the dividend. I have.
