  • It's Time To Kill The Electric Car, Drive A Stake Through Its Heart And Burn The Corpse [View article]
To say that they only way that a product should be brought to market is if it can be produced at a ridiculous level of imagined demand (which appears to be the premise of your argument) is a silly, ridiculous argument. To say that Henry Ford never should have brought the car to market because initial conditions would never have met eventual demand- only someone with a ph. d, or extra letters after their name could be so stupid...

  • Carl Icahn, now offering to buy Clorox (CLX +3.5%) for $80/share instead of $76.50, doesn't like anyone questioning his seriousness, as he scorches the Clorox board in a letter that includes an offer of $5.2B in escrow, insults hurled at CEO Don Knauss, and various ANGRY ALL CAPS rants. He may have a point: CLX has been trading at 2006 levels.  [View news story]
I love that letter. It is beautiful. Knauss looks like a stooge.

  • In Alan Greenspan's view, the Fed's QE programs - not just QE2, but also QE1 - had little impact on the U.S. economy "besides weakening the dollar and helping US exports." Greenspan also continues to believe a Greek default is likely, and is skeptical about the introduction of QE3, given the effect it would have on the dollar.  [View news story]
Way to cherry pick May's numbers. I guess the only thing you're ignoring is... I dunno... a tsunami with a nuclear meltdown, riots in the streets of every arab country that you can name, and... I heard there's a little problem with the Greek economy. Funny- you seem to have missed that...

  • 8 Stocks Making the 1990's Dot Com Bubble Look Rational by Comparison [View article]
I'm sorry. Given the unpredictable price action in these stocks - if it is irrational to buy these stocks, it is as equally irrational to short them.

  • Yandex IPO Looks Promising [View article]
I agree with the general thrust of your post, but countries such as Russia will want to have an internet search company that is their own- that competes with the likes of Google and Baidu. The Russians have a strong sense of national pride and identity, and I think this will provide a long-term competitive edge for Yandex within Russia against foreign-owned search.

Alan is "ill-advised" about everything. Amazing that Mr. Magoo still has the stones to open his mouth in public...

  • John Paulson's hedge fund, which recently took a $107M hit on its Sino-Forest (SNOFF.PK) investment, reportedly sold "a substantial portion" of its 124 million-share stake in Bank of America (BAC) in the two months prior to the company's mortgage settlement. BofA shares recorded a 3% gain yesterday on the settlement news.  [View news story]
Paulson ought to retire and open up a savings account. And STFU.

  • Scott Moritz argues that Cisco's (CSCO) struggles aren't merely the result of the company's own missteps, but a prelude to broader problems in the tech sector. However, evidence of Cisco's switch and router market share losses is considerable, and Gartner's new IT spending forecast doesn't suggest a troubled industry.  [View news story]
Begs the question- who is stealing their market share?

  • "I sleep very soundly at night because I believe in the boundless stupidity of the German government," says economist Stefan Homburg, long Greek paper yielding 25%. He explains the folly of bailing out Greece, even as he profits off of it. "Why should it only be banks and hedge funds that benefit?"  [View news story]
Stefan, you sleep soundly because you're a dolt, and that's what dolts do.

  • Netflix (NFLX +3.4%) CEO Reed Hastings jumps on Facebook's board - interesting in light of the idea the companies may be getting more likely to cooperate than compete (previously: I, II, III).  [View news story]

  • Zen tips on oil from the White House: Oil prices "will be what they are," but the move by the U.S. to release 30M barrels from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve not only complements the actions by Saudi Arabia and the rest of the IEA, but addresses seasonal demand. America's been talking the moves with partner countries for "months" and says it's ready to do more.  [View news story]
This is completely unfair to the speculators that have been working hard to manipulate the price of oil upwards. I am shocked by the unfairness!

  • House Majority leader Eric Cantor pulls out of budget talks led by VP Biden over a disagreement on taxes that will require the input of President Obama and Speaker Boehner to resolve. "We've reached the point where the dynamic needs to change," says Cantor.  [View news story]
No more taxes? Of course you realize that federal taxes are at an all-time low? Or is that too much math for your feeble mind?

Get rid of the Bush tax cuts, means-test social security and medicare- end of problem. The missing element? Enough lazy, stupid voters to develop the political will to cart their asses to the polls.
