  • Analysts see cost-cutting in Cenovus Energy executive departures [View news story]
Doing the math things are not adding up - huge committed CAPEX - total miss on hedging program - changes to the DRIP - > 800 staff reduction - over-commitment to rail car purchases - disaster take or pay contracts for pipeline capacity -poorly received equity offering - now 4 executives 'retiring'. As a long time shareholder I am very concerned with management's strategy.

  • Cenovus: More Than Meets The Eye [View article]
Very little mention is made of the large acreage position (unexploited) nor the royalty side of the conventional oil and gas business. Given ECA completed it's Prairie Sky spin-off and CNRL is contemplating similar with their fee /royalty lands there has been little press or comments from CVE on this strategy. Someone is either asleep at the wheel or management really has no intention of increasing shareholder value.

  • Royalty spinoff option "attractive," Canadian Natural CEO says [View news story]
This makes one wonder why Cenovus, with their fee lands, isn't looking to do similar to EnCana.

  • Encana restructures senior management, old guard leaves [View news story]
This shake-up was a long time coming. The previous CEO blindly ran the company into the ground and it was his executive that just went along and likely never questioned the company direction or strategy. The BOD should be replaced as well.

  • Encana: Holding Is The Best Option At The Moment [View article]
I have been incredibly disappointed with this stock since Randy Erasman has been guiding it. Where are the BOD ? Several missteps from stubbornly trying to will natural gas prices up and blindly ignoring the step change with frac'ing, spinning off oil sands assets and now talk of collusion with Chesapeake. With world class assets this company needs strong leadership.

I may be a bit niave but do these types of company not carry insurance to manage some of the risk for this type of 'software' event? I know in other industries/businesses insurance is bought for similar software risks. Thx

  • Encana: Beware the False Dividend [View article]
ECT has nothing to do with Encana.
The ECA actually is Energy Corporation of America.

  • Will Tar Sands Shares Rise or Fall? [View article]
The accepted term is 'oilsands' not 'tar sands'. Your commentary flips between using oilsands (in the case of Cenovus) and tar sands.

  • The Oil Sands: Profiting from a Misunderstood Patch in the Oil Complex [View article]
Although the National Geographic tried to shock people investors should take the time to do their own due dilligence. The fact is that less than 20% of oilsands recovery is done thru mining, the vast majority of the projects are insitu (in place -- in the ground). PLEASE take the time to understand the whole issue.

  • The Bull Case for EnCana [View article]
You are championing the company because of the diversification and integration (oilsands, nat. gas, downstream) yet the company is single-mindedly trying to 'split' itself (when the time is 'right'). It's greatest strength will be its weakness.
